need new Mthrboard for Conroe E6600 and Phase

Hi,

I have a new custom phase unit being built, to be used with a stepping 5 b1 E6600. In reality I should have gone for at least a E6700, at the time I thought I'd stick with water. In any case the 965 chipset seems to be ruling the roost in terms of max fsb. Prob with 965 is that it does not support Crossfire. So I'm looking for a board that can hit 450fsb with or without hard vmods(I ususally perform these myself), are there any boards that can manage it? The DFI 975XG that I have certainly can't....

I'm hoping to test the asus p5wdh-d tonight for max fsb.I'll let you know if all goes well.

thanks mate, that would be good. Let me know what you manage on 9X multi.

Some people are reporting 440 or so, some have hit way more with vmch mod.

Hi Mav,

I did ask Coolaler about how many of the 975 boards were hitting 450, he said the Intel 975XBX. He did not mention the MSI. I also asked Gary Key of Anandtech, he's stuck @ 370 with the MSI but has managed 445 with the Asus.

I may well go and mod an Intel unless our friend results are quite good.

The best CPUs are being kneecapped by hit an miss boards and poor BIOS. The sooner Intel get onboard memory controllers the better.

I could almost feel sorry for them, but they`re winning anyway so....nahhhhh :D

The Gigabyte boards are doing up to 500...in theory the DQ6 should be the best due to the 12-phase power, but the DS4 seems to be equalling or edging it out, despite only 6-phase.

Those 965 chipset boards do seem to have an easier time. The PCIE bus load is obviously reduced hence the higher clocks. Unfortunatley I need something for Crossfire, so I'm limited to the 975 at present..

Ok,please bear in mind my mobo is completely untouched,on the stock cooler, running bios 0801 and its very warm today.Using the 9 multi, the highest i could boot windows direct from bios was 390fsb,i tried more on all voltages, but no go.Once in windows i was able to run spi 4m up to 440fsb,but could not pass 8m,so i guess its about the limit as i was below my cpu and rams max capabilities. Not bad i think, and with better chipset cooling and a few vmods this mobo should be able to go to 475+ at least.Aside from the usual terrible asus vcore regulation,i am having no issues with this board, using it in a benching configuration.

there is a quite simple pencil volt stabilising mod over at XS I think.

What's the rest of your setup CPU, GFX, hard drives in raid?

Edit sorry just checked your sig...

I assume the raptors are in raid 0?

i belive the main reson the intel oc so well is because it ant got onboard memory controllers to freak out at sub 0

Nah..even above ambient, they are owning AMD.

maybe Intel wont have the same sub-zero problems AMD have had in regards to that, and possibly AMDs SiGE process will help as well, though I have no idea why its only the memory controller part of the CPU that suffers

Nope, currently running single 160gb sata and pci gfx ,just to test the limits.

This board doesn't seem as keen on 1/1 as it does on 3/4,cant seem to get beyond 425fsb,1/1.

500 FSB on DQ6, or do the DS4's beat even that?!
