Need moar space!!

I have recently bought the Seagate BlackArmor NAS 400 and dropped 2X2TB(5900,32MB) seagate drives in it.Im having some problems

1St.It's really slow this thing but that's because my modem is not supporting 1000mbps.

2nd,I run out of space immediately and there is no question that sometime at the end of the spring season with all the wedding and the baptisms i will max another 4TB(2X2TB)drives,so there is a potential "out of space" problem. and 3rd,I also need a new computer.Until now my i7 could easily handle SD videos but im thinking about full HD lately.So a 6 core cpu along with a sata 3 motherboard and the new sata 3 ssds coming out in a few months is the only way but very very costly at this point.

Now here's the question.Should I buy a new pc and a good gigabit switch,change the raid 1 configuration to JBOD and god help us,or sell the blackarmor and head for a 10 bay(and up) external sata hard drive enclosure and stick to SD resolutions?.

Im in a dilemma!

.any thoughts?

get a new mobo that has a better ethernet throughput

upgrade your drives to velociraptors for storage

get a SSD for your OS and most used apps

and

get a highend gfx card

job done

Answer these questions if you can (in detail) please:

-How much space you need, roughly:

-What kind of i7 CPU do you have:

-What is your current PC Specs:

I would build a storage server using a large case/server case with multiple 1/2TB HDDs, using the current computer components you have and would also buy a decent raid card.

I'm pretty sure the i7 wouldn't have trouble with HD videos, you could increase the amount of ram you have and throw in a mid-range gpu. this all depends on your current system spec and if you actually need a new PC, have you tried HD on your current computer?

I will try to help again if you can provide a bit more information.

My bigger concern is that i need an external enclosure to connect it to at least 2 systems.The blackarmor is perfect on that but it only has 4 HDD bays which limits the capacity at 8GB(i dont know if a sata3 HDD can connect with legacy support,it would be wonderful:).

I need at least 10TB mirrored in raid1. Now if i make the step to HD this number should be 30TB at minimum.

Specs are:

Cpu = i7 920

Ram = 6GB Corair (TR3X61333C9)

Mobo = GA-X58-UD5

GPU = HD5770.(Im not using premiere yet but probably quadro with the upgrade).

Its not that the i7 cant hadle the hd,it takes some time to render all the project and thats anoying maybe with a 24GB ram kit + an pci SSD + a decent quadro card is the best choice at this point,Because the need of more space is inevitable.
