Need help with XP boot file

I installed Partition Commander 9 : PC9

Then uninstalled it without ever running the program. Now when my system gets past the POST screen I get this:

It's still looking for the System Commander boot file. Is it possible to edit the Windows boot file so it doesn't look for that file? If so how do I go about doing it so I don't screw it up?

Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

It may well be worth running Windows Setup setup again by booting from your XP CD.

Then choose to repair XP, and it should recreate the boot record.

Others may have better ideas...so hold up for some more replies

Does your boot.ini file say anything about System Commander in it?

Can you even boot to windows when asked to select a partition there? Or is it locked up?

You need to reset your MBR, the best and easiest way to do this is to do as Jim said and boot from your XP cd and hit up the recovery console. There's an option in there to create a new MBR.

I have to hit the zero key, then it loads Windows fine.

Nothing out of the ordinary there. I would do what XMS said and repair your mbr using the setup repair function. If that doesn't work there is some software that I am looking for that can search for things like this and delete them. I had the same problem with Partition Magic awhile back.

I just booted to the XP disk/recovery console. I tried the BOOTCFG /DEFAULT. That didn't change anything

fixboot C:

In the console

The other option i recall is fixmbr but i can't remember how to use that.
