need help selecting a GPU

ive been reading other threads ppl have posted trying to get an idea, and what ive noticed is many of you recommend a card with high vram. this would be my first build, and its still a couple few months away, which means that the 700/7000 series may be out by that time, but for the purpose of this, lets just forget about that, in case they get pushed off and wont be out by the time im ready to build.

so ya. i just need to know whats good. AMD or nVidia doesnt matter. i realize a 3gb 580 would be sweet, but not sure i wanna spend that much on a card....since this would be my first PC, im not a super heavy gamer on PC, at least not at the moment. so excluding that $550 card, what other options do i have?

thank you guys for your help.

a good bang for buck is the 570GTX in either flava 1.25 or 2.5 of ram I myself dont see my gpu using more than stock amount while gaming. Might be because i have 8gb of ddr3 not 100% sure if thats a factor or not but as i said I love my 570GTX and it plays everything superbly

If you are not a mainstream PC gamer then all you might need is a Gtx560, you can find some for under $200 American. It will run 75% of games on all highs at 1920x1080.

yea. i thought about getting just a 560 ti. but where im not a PC gamer actually makes me want to get something a little more powerful. i dont wanna be like "oh im not a PC gamer i dont need too much" cause thats not really the case. im a gamer, i just havent moved to PC yet. so i am actually building this PC making sure it can handle whatever i decide to venture into. heavy gaming, OCing, W/Cing, etc. ive been planning on a EVGA Superclocked 580. but from what i see in these threads, is that the VRAM might not be enough. but $500 is already stretching it, nvm $550. so i wasnt sure if i was better off going with a card a step lower and but with more VRAM, plus i wanted to see if there were any suggestions on AMD cards as i really know nothing about them cause i had planned on nVidia from the start.but im not biased to either one, since its my first build and all.

the other issue that ive been quarreling over, is do i really need a 580. would i be fine with just a 570? or AMD equivalent...like is the 580 really that much more powerful then the cards below it where its worth the extra $150-$200+ dollars?

that's why I suggested the 570GTX best bang for buck imho. Don't get me wrong had i the extra $$$ when i got it I would have a 580 no doubt. But I cant find a single fault with my 570 at all

yea. ive been looking at benchmarks and stuff and i dont see the difference in performance being worth the difference in money. only because this is something i have to work and save up for. had i won the lottery itd be a no brainer lol, but ya.

will the VRAM be an issue though? (not that the 580 has much more then the 570) is it worth it to spend the extra $100 on a 2.5gb 570?....does AMD have a cheaper alternative?

appreciate your help

(but imho they are not as good as Nvidia) but as I said before i never notice a mem issue with mine and I have a 1.25 model.

yea i really didnt think there would be an issue.

although AMDs 6970 (which is AMDs version of the 570 ya?) all have 2gb, for the same price/cheaper. maybe its something to consider.

for AMD, THIS would be a card id be considering. seems to be slightly factory overclocked compared to the other cards, as well as good reviews and afaik (which isnt far) MSI is a pretty reliable company for parts.

by like how much though?

we talking little bit more noise that wont really be noticeable over the world around me anyways, and slightly more heat or a shit ton more noise and 10C hotter?

ya. ive noticed that enthusiasts exaggerate a little much though. omg this is soooo loud blah blah and its not. my friend is case and point. he built a PC and hes tellin me how he needs to replace a fan cause it was annoying him, and when i went and listened i didnt hear anything, unless i took the side panel off and held my ear to the fan with nothing on in the background lol.

i highly disbelieve leaf blower. i have fan(s) (1 or 2) going on in my room 24/7 (cause i like to keep it cool and i cant sleep without the white noise in the background) and a Ps3 (which isnt loud now that ive cleaned it out lol) so i think what many consider loud, i wont
