Need Help on standoffs ...

Building WS

I'm building my new WS and encountered a slight problem with corsair case 750d and motherboard 79ped8 ws.

My problem is that the built in stand offs in the 750d does not match exactly with the motherboard. Since I can not install additional standoffs I was wondering if i could place small double sided tape to stop the case from hitting the MOB. Is this a good solution or there is a better one?

I can't seem to find a motherboard called "79ped8 ws" but you should unscrew the standoffs that don't match and place them in new spots(you have several choices since the case supports multiple motherboard sizes).

The motherboard is the asus Z9PE-D8 WS and the case is the corsair 750d. according to different reviews and the asus site it does not need standoffs like normal cases as they are built in.

Did you make sure the 750D takes an EEB motherboard, before you bought it ? All I can recommend is you remove all of the the standoffs, and drill an tap them where they're needed.

I did quite a good search before and if I'm not mistaken it is compatible.. That's a good option thanks but with the existing fixed standoffs that are touching the back of the motherboard what is the best solution to stop this. I can not screw normal standoffs screws to the case because will not be aligned with the case back panel shield. If i cover these fixed standoffs of the 750d with rubber will it work?

I'm sure you'll have to remove them mate. Have you any idea how they are fixed ? Two ways come to mind, either use a Dremel and cut them ate the base, or clamp on a set of mole grips, and snap them off.

With the motherboard, do you mean the standoffs are fixed to it ?
 
750D has raised screw holes (stand off mounts) eliminating the use of stand off screws.

But the stand off in the the middle of the case is screwed in. Use pliers to loosen it and remove.

You may notice that as soon as you do that and insert the motherboard, you cant screw the motherboard in place with the supplied screws. (Well you can, but you'll bend the board)

Get some 6-32x3/8" screw heads to replace the existing motherboard screws.

I had to do this when attaching my Asus mobo which includes the armour to the case

In the 750d there are not normal standoffs, they are just stamped bumps in the motherboard tray with threads in them, you'd have to cut hole in the motherboard tray to remove them. Your best option would be to just put some sort of electrical insulating material over the ones that are in the way.

Yes that was removed but I have few raised screws holes that are touching the back of the motherboard. do you have a suggestion to solve this. Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. From your experience do you think that double sided tape will work?. I am considering to use double sided tape (Fixed only to case not to the motherboard) so it will act as a cushioning under the motherboard.

Yes I will be going that route. Electrical tape to the case raised standoffs and than will lay a layer of double sided tape for cushioning. I think that this is the best solution for this configuration.

Thank you all who gave few minutes to give their feedback/thoughts. If somebody will come up with a better solution just post it. Will consider options till this evening as I need to continue the build.

Electrical tape, or a thin rubber washer. I wouldn't trust double sided tape, it's so thin the solder point on the rear of the board might go through it.

For everyone's information.. yesterday I continued the build and tried to use 2mm spacers but had problems with them as they were bending the motherboard when screwing the screws. I ended up using double sided tape. Luckily enough there weren't any pins near the raised standoffs.

I love the case and the build quality is impressive but my conclusion is that I will not recommend the 750d with asus z9pe-d8 ws.

The board doesnt officially fit in the 900D either - any that didnt line up and would have touched electrical points I didnt use.

Just go extra careful when fitting stuff. If you smash parts in like hulk and break your board its only your fault - Ive worked with mine loads and just been really careful.

I hope nothing will happen.. I've been saving for my WS for couple of years now :).

>One last query. I used the two 9pin onboard usb headers for the Corsair link coolers and need another 2x 9pin for the front USB panel and the PSU corsair link connection. Will it work if i buy 9pin to usb header converters and plug it in to the on board USB?

I think all of the Corsair Link USB Connectors only use 4 pins so you could wire two into the same block without any mods, just carefully open the tabs and pull the pins out then insert them into their respective free holes in the other block.

Bad idea, if he gets the pins wrong he will fry them.....
