Need help on OC'ing 1100t on Asus Crosshair IV Formula MoBo

Hey guys,

Due to a mishap in swapping out my Thermaltake SpinQ aircooler over to a corsair H50, I accidentally pulled out my CPU in the process of removing my heatsink (the thermalpaste I used was bad quality and literally had the heatsink and CPU GLUED together). It bent the pins bad enough I was forced to get a replacement. Rather than going with another 1090T, I went with a 1100T to have the fastest current AMD cpu on the market. Now I have it installed and ready to go.

However, I'm still new to overclocking, and with the 1090T, it had CPU level up profiles built into the motherboard. Well, I've updated the BIOS and for this CPU, there are none. This means I'll have to manually overclock it, which I've never really done before.

Currently I have core unlocker enabled, as well as my DRAM timings set to DDR3 1600 at 9-9-9-24 timings (the memory's default, but for some reason if I don't set it at that it just stays at 1333). I currently have the profile set to D.O.C.P. whatever that means.

I'm looking just for a really conservative and stable 3.8-4.0GHz overclock. I've overclocked in the past so I know what I'm doing, but this MoBo has so many features I don't even know where to start. Can anyone lead me in the right direction to set my multiplier properly and all the settings I need to make it work?

Don't go over 1.45v unless you want another dead CPU. I have my 1090 at 3.8Ghz @1.41v but it can go as low as 1.4 or as high as 1.47, however most of the time fluctuates between 1.41 and 1.43v. With the CH4 you should REALLY REALLY overclock the northbridge. Mine is 2.9Ghz @1.35v and made the system so much smoother it turned my 7200rpm hard disk into the speed of a pair of SSDs. However prime froze on me with 3.1Ghz @1.37v and so I reverted back to 2.9Ghz @1.35. In other words stay below 3ghz for stability, but on a defect free CH4 the NB never gets hot.

okay - i just seen your sig

cpu volts = ~1.5v

Bus = 200

multiplier = x20

double check ram multiplier and set the ram voltage to manufacturers specs

disable turbo mode

omg - the 1090 defaults better than that, with turboboost taking it 3.6 as standard

Overclock the CPU NB too (1.26-1.28) and increase the NB frequency to around 2600Mhz - do the above and if its stable, then gradually drop the voltage down tier by tier until it comes unstable
 
Alright guys, so I got to 4.0 GHz using 1.4 CPU Voltage set manually and 20x multiplier....but CPU-Z Is still staying voltage is at 1.35? I don't get it at all.

Help?

So long as it's stable. Have you ran prime yet?

Also did you set the bios voltage to 1.4 or is that what load line calibration has bumped 1.35 up to?
 
+1 Thats probably down to LLC, when its under load you should see it hit 1.4 and a bit more if it needs it

lol you sound like TTL there hahahahaha

if you want 3.9 its easy use the cpu level up and select 3.9 done if you want more then tweak the fsb a tad and might have to up the vocre and cpu/nb voltages a tad. I had that mono before I got my extreme and use the auto oc to get to 3.9 and then tweaked from there. I can boot to 285fsb a tad unstable 275 id prime for mine but at that fsb ya gotta drop the multi but as said set nb and ht link to about 2600 as well

 
Can't help you with the overclocking; but next time you remove the heatsink jenzator, try to lift CPU retention lever first while the heatsink is still on before loosening the heatsink. That way, you avoid damaging the AMD's pins if you'd tried to break the suction between the CPU heat spreader and the heatsink.
 
I hate to backtrack, but I've got a couple more questions....

So out of a little bit of fear, I backed the OC back down to about 3.8 GHz until I get some answers. 4.0GHz is fine and dandy, but what about longevity? I am a college student and while I love to overclock, I just don't have the money to keep replacing parts sooner than their expected lifespan. If I keep it at 4.0 will I have a decent longevity life? I'm running the Corsair H50 as well, and I use the program CoreTemp. However, when I load it up it can't read the core temperatures???

I don't get that. Will my H50 be ok to keep the core temps down at that OC?

And I'm still worried about OC'ing and CPU-Z still telling me that I'm still running on 1.35 voltage. If it was showing at the 1.40 voltage I set, I wouldn't be so worried....but how do I make my BIOS settings recognize the 1.40 voltage? I've manually set it under the CPU voltage, and the BIOS seems to show 1.401...but like I said...it still shows up as stock in Windows.

simple as - it hardly ever is the same readings as in BIOS

i have my 1055T running @3.95 with a CoolIt vantage on it, and it has been like that almost 24/7 for about two months solid

here is what i have done..... in my BIOS, and am able to save certain OC profiles. i have one each for warm and hot weather, and a few for benching purposes. that way if one is a bit suspect, i change to another setting

Okay, you have me convinced. One last question, and this is off topic...but on my Corsair H50, do I need to have the fan PULLING away or PUSHING towards the radiator? I was a little confused about that. Right now I have it blowing air OUT the case and I think I have it on backwards

the fan needs to be pushing air thru the rad (OR pulling air thru it)

on my rad, i have two fans in a push/pull config

as long as the air is exhausted out of the case, that is all that matters (in most cases) <-excuse the pun
 
Thanks. I fixed it just now so that the fan is now pushing the air into the rad. I also have a 240mm Fan on the top on my coolermaster HAF case blowing air out the top and out the front. So I think I'm good on ventilation.

Would it hurt to put on another fan like you have? How much lower are your temps with the additional fan?

I just sure wish I could actually read my core temps though! I have no idea what they are right now.

Oh, and now that I have my 4.0GHz overclock,m it'd probably be wise to run Prime95 I guess.
