Im buying a new computer and do you think this is a good configuration? these are just the basics, the storage and coolers are very good, but Id like to get some input hardware-wise:

DDR-2 2048 MB PC 800 Kingston

MB Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H

CPU AMD Athlon 64 6000+ Dual Core BOX socket AM2

VGA PCIe ASUS EN9800GT HB/HTDI/512MB

yes one problem why a AMD??? do you want to overclock????

You wil not beat an intel setup especialy X58 see my overclock in sig!!!

even still pick a good core2 quad that overclocks andyou'll be flying there easy to get a good overclock with a sensible cpu ram and board combo.

e.g q6600 quad or simlar rampage/maximus m/board OCZ/Corsair ram and as good as GFX as you can would try and stretch to a 9800gtx or even better the new 260gtx

p.s think i'd dodge the gigabyte boards full stop!!!

Hmm i7 is not exactly an option for anyone who has a budget... Except for maniacs like me who have been saving money for 6 months.

For a basic non overclocking setup this is looking just healthy. I have built two rigs with a similar setup (HD4850, 6000+ boxed, GigaByte 790x-DS4) and it played Crysis on 1920x1200 at medium, ate SupremeCommander campaign (2x22") for breakfast and maxed CoD4 out on a 22".

yes It isn't cheap but I don't really feel given the performance and crazy overclock ability i7 920 are not that expensive it's just the boards and need for ram that push the price up. if I was gonna dump even say £500 on 775 I'd hang on and wait for i7

Me being me I'd just have to stay with intel as more people have it, its more widely used and mainly it overclocks what a nice freebie :D

an i7 is way out of my league, and i really like amd becuse they are so much faster, i have an intel dual core now and it`s pretty fast but I saw an amd with the same amount of GHz and its really better, esspecialy for games (for wich I plan to use the new computer:)) Im just wondering will it affect some games (new ones) and programs if I get an amd 64bit, and can I install a 32-bit vista ultimate on it?

Uhh wait a moment. AMD outperforming intel in games? AMD faster clock per clock? I think you need to read some recent reviews mate :/

An E84/5/600 will outperform about any AMD and costs around €130 at the moment. Witha P5Q (€120 (?)) below it you will be able to clock the hell out of it and make it dominate even more.

If you want to go AMD it's your choice, I'm not stopping you and they will probably meet your demands. But I really recommend going Intel for now as they are just faster at the moment.

And yes, you will be able to install a 32bit OS on a 64bit cpu, but I recommend a 64 bit OS as it can handle more memory.

LOL AMD faster than intel :rollingla I't would be nice to think it was the pc market would grow fast....

Like monkey7 said read some reviews but for gods sake buy an intel core2duo or quad (budget depending)some good cooling and overclock.
