Need Advice Quick.

Game Over

Hey Guys.
First off I have the Gigabyte x79-UD3 motherboard and something odd happened today that I think is MOBO related/caused.

I need to know if you guys have experienced this and maybe if I should be worried or not. Wondering if this is a sign my MOBO is going to take a crap and die soon.

So I had my pc in sleep mode and came to the PC, clicked my mouse to wake it up which it did. Woke up to the usual log in screen. I went to log in but my mouse was not working, and the keyboard also was not working or responding in any way. I looked under the mouse and No red light and no lights on keyboard.

Ok no big deal, So I restart the PC by using the restart button and it starts up normally.

But no internet. My icon in the task bar has a red X on it. Ok, so no big deal, just check the modem, It looks fine, check my other PC, net is working so not a service outage. Check the cables even switch them up. Still no net. Is this related to the Mouse and Keyboard? Both plugged into the MOBO as is the Internet cable. And internet issue starts immediately after this Mouse/keyboard failure.

I did the usual network and services trouble shooting tool from the control pannel. it tells me something I cant remember exactly, just that it gets an error.

So I go looking on the net and it is recomended that maybe it is a driver issue. So I go to gigabyte and look up the drivers for my MOBO and try downloading a couple. One for Lan. Try to install but get an error saying Host controller is not found. So I figure the driver is just for extra network cards and not the one built into the MOBO? or Is the MOBO not working and thus not allowing the driver install. I do not know enough about mobo's and bios.

So I try one last thing, I shut down PC, unplug from power, and pull out the MOBO battery for a while.

I replace everything and fire it up not expecting anything.

it starts up and now the internet is working. WTF.

NOTE (I had shutdown and restarted the PC maybe over a half dozen times hoping it would work itself out with no luck until I tried removing the MOBO battery)

So it was something to do with the MOBO?

I am glad the net is working now, but what is going on? is this a normal thing I should not worry about or is this an early indicator that the mobo is maybe on its last legs.

If the later, should I maybe get the card repaired or just buy a new one.

So anyone know whats going on, should I be concerned?

I can not really afford to go out buying a new mobo right now but if i must, I will.

my first Z68-UD5 did the exact same thing. Weird things dropped off and back on after either restarting or total power down (battery removal as you did) Worked fine for roughly a year prior to this. I contacted gigabyte and they said it sounded like the chipset was at fault and rma'd it I did the advanced rma so i was sure to not get the same board back. Second board was fine not sure it had the issue as I swapped it later for the UD7 model. But yeah sounds like the chipset is becoming faulty. Mine ranged from nic having issues as well as the usb ports. Til finally the nic died for good thats when I rma'd it.

I have had this mobo for a couple years, so not paperwork or anything for it. Is it something I could get fixed or would it be more cost effective to just replace?

Thanks for the reply by the way.

serial base warranty thru gigabyte ring them up or use the online tool. worth a shot but if its not under warranty start saving up I dont know the process of replacing the chipset I'm sure it can be done but dont know costs.
