Need a new rig! Suggestions?

Alright so I kind of had an incident 2 weeks ago where my Sager gaming laptop decided it would be a good idea to kill itself. I woke up to it having leaked LCD fluid through the keyboard into the internals and kaboom, it fried itself. After talking to xoticpc where I purchased said laptop, I found out i'm no longer covered under warranty and I would have to pay the shipping across the border to have it fixed, where i would have to buy the parts.

Apparantly laptops are considered radioactive and there was a huge stack of paperwork i had to fill out. I said screw that i'll just buy a desktop so here I am.

I am looking to keep the price down as I am a poor student but not having a gaming computer is out of the question so...

I did some looking and found some barebone kits from tigerdirect.ca so any help deciding what to get would be great!

My price range including tax and shipping is no more than $1200 CAD. I will be buying the graphics card separate.

wats the graphics in the other two computers i paid 980 for my rig and i was in the same boat as you for 980 you get a pretty decent rig i play almost all games at thier highest on one screen go two and im looking at 40fps ish unless we're talking crysis.

if u wanna defo stick with intel get the 2nd one,but i would go AMD IMO

for a budget gaming rig invest 200$ in the graphics card to begin with then build your setup from that because you want the main investment to be the graphics card. Personally i went with amd because the athlon x4 620 is a real bargin at 130$ cad and overclocks very nicely.

So if I were to build from the graphics card up....should I be looking to Radeon or Geforce? For similar prices I could go with the 5770, or I could go with something like the Geforce GTX 260. I would love to get something high end but my funds do not allow for it.

i got a 9800gtx+ which is like a gtx 250 and its very nice for game at 1600x900 the 5770 is direct x 11 so its a bit more future proof but personally an nvidia fan boy but either way should be nice. Also consider getting a board that supports sli or crossfire depending on the graphics card you choose. Building a rig is all about research and you cant really research too much.

So I have been researching and trying to figure out exactly what route I should take with my upcoming PC build. So far I have it narrowed down to this, I am just waiting for my funds to go through and then I will order it and put it all together. I wanted to pass it along to you guys to see what you thought:

Thanks for the input ninja, I found a xfx 5770 for 195 bucks new so I think I might just get it and overclock it myself rather than paying the extra 40 bucks for the factory to do it. I also dropped my HD to a seagate 500gb for 60 bucks so the total price comes out to $1193 which is a little bit lighter on my wallet as well

if you can try and get a samsung f3 500gb they are the fastest spin drives on the market

Sad fact of the matter is with tech these days, some1 with the same budget could allocate 80% or so of it to get a 5970 or even a 480, spend peanuts on the mobo/cpu/memory/drives - and u'd cry when they bring the pc over and play the same game next to u.

Ofc, ur cpu etc benchies will look more impressive.

Well the way I see it, I game on a 22" 1680x1050 monitor so as long as my card can pump out the graphics on high and not chug and sputter i'm happy for the time being. Once I pay the bill on this computer...which will probably take me awhile as I am a full time student with a part time job, I'll be able to save up and buy a different card if I really want to.

I'm excited, I haven't had my own desktop computer for like over 2 years now so this will be a nice change for sure.
