Need a New Case and PSU

I'm going to upgrade my current 6 year old desktop to the new "Sandy Bridge" i5 CPUs in a few weeks time and I thought I'd get a new case and PSU to go with it. I did see a Cooler Master 690 II and a Cooler Master GX 650W PSU on scan for a decent enough price. Now, I presume that they'll:

1. Fit well together.

2. Cable will fit tidily in the case and won't cause any problems.

3. Will be suffecient for the new i5 cpu and p67 motherboard.

4. Provide enough cooling for the new rig.

I have got 2 80mm fans in my current case which I could use along with the 3 included with the Cooler Master case. So would this seem like a good buy or is there anything else out there cheaper and better?

The last time I paid attention to PC hardware was back in 2005 so go easy on any noob mistake I make.

I have a CM690II, the "Advanced" version and I find myself these days eyeballing a Fractal Design Define R3. As for the PSU, most Seasonic units, some Corsairs (the HX line) will do fine.

The included fans in the CM are fail.

corsair and nzxt psu's are a good brand to choose from

case wise just depends what you like tbh xigmatek utgards are meant to be good though

I am looking at the Antec 300 Three Hundred which gets a good review. I know that has less vents which may mean a more efficient airflow but the Cooler Master does look really good.

The coolermaster 690 II is far better. It can support dual 240 WC Rads and has a black interior and has a windowed side panel available.

The Antec 300 is kinda pointless without adding your own case fans, even than it seems really fragile to me. CM 690 II Advance, HAF 912, Xigmatek Utgard, Lancool K60, Antec Dark Fleet DF-30 or an Antec 902 are probably your best bets in that price range.

I ordered the CM 690 II Lite last night for £47 on Scan. That and a 750W CM PSU for £55. Not too bad since they're in the sale and the VAT will be up next week.

The fans you currently have - bin. As in put them in the bin! Just get yourself a decent CPU heatsink and youll need nothing else.

Hmm...

Would the CoolerMaster Silent Pro Gold 800W be good competition to that XFX you posted earlier?

In my personal experience, NO!

I would avoid coolermaster PSU's as the rats, whatever that means

Al tho i have no idea how the XFX performance but i had 2x Coolermaster PSU's blow on me, thank god it didn't take anything else with it...

Good to know. Thanks.

The Corsairs still looks decent enough for my new rig. My Tagan 480W PSU has lasted me perfectly for 6 years (*touches wood*)and I'm hoping the TX series will do the same. I won't be pushing it by any means. The new i5's should be less power hungry and hot than the older ones and my GTS250 doesn't suck up too much power. Even if it was to be in SLI which I doubt I'll do for a year at least.

The XFX, which may be really good, still looks and sounds like a cheap make. I could very well be wrong but if I was to get a new PSU, the Corsair or one of the Antec's would be the ones I'd go for.

the xfx is made by seasonic as is all the xfx power supplies so too the corsair ax750/850 cx400/vx450 hx650 and antec tpn 550/650/750 neo eco 400/520/620 hcg 400/520/620

here are a few reviews

Thanks for all the links and advice. Really appreciated. I managed to cancel my last order for that CM PSU (thank god for that) and this XFX looks like a good supply. But have Tagan gone down the drain? Just that I'm still impressed with my 480W PSU lasting 6 years with constant daily use.

avoid the XFX's like the plague, we had flames out of the back of the two we had. Corsair or NZXT would be my money.

Yeah, I may just go all out and get a Corsair HX850W. At least then I can sleep easy knowing it should be extremely reliable. I do intend for it to last 6 years too. So here's hoping (*touches wood*).
