Naval Strike is live...

I agree with everything that's been said... So what do I play now?

I'm 40hrs in and BF4's starting to wear me thin, netcode is my biggest issue... Titanfall just looks silly... CODs of late are a joke... I've resorted to going back and forth to COD4 but it just doesn't feel the same anymore... Is this the death of FPS games..?

You could try Mechwarrior Online it plays well and they are making heaps of progress with it and it's free to play, it's not a great BF replacement but it's honestly not bad either, i've had some good grudge matches that have got the old heart pumping

mechs = terribad movement
f2p = hackers and flamers

i am really wondering what the next franchise will be to get majorly fucked up. i kinda expected titanfall to take the place, but titanfall was never great and already got a split reception. there really is no follow up for cod and BF, ARMA is kinda popular because of dayz but ARMA isn't easily accessible for newbies and bohemia aren't the type to abuse the simpletons like EA or Activision. there aren't a whole lot of big FPS franchises left to mess with.
i suppose the FPS genre is now finally dead, even though it has been since 2009 really. it will be all LoL and Starcraft from now on, what a sad thing to realize.
This might be the beginning of a new era though, now that FPS gaming is dead there might be room for smaller developers who value the old principles (mod support, dedicated servers, no DLC garbage, etc.) to finally get some exposure again. i know of a handful of projects which could benefit from the big publishers taking a step back.

Yeah BF4 has really gone to shit. They started banning people from servers, because of living in a different country from the server host! I dont know how much that has to do with DICE, but I dont care. Back to BF3.

They've been doing that since BF3 mate, you'll find no respite there.

There's always Counterstrike, might go back to that for a while.

Might I suggest insurgency?

I've seen a bit of that game, it looks like it was executed alright, not too sure about the one life/round thing though. That works in games like CS or promod, but the rounds in insurgency are a lot longer. Does it have modes where you can respawn?

Don't forget Plannetside 2, I haven't played it for a long time but I have been keeping up with the news. It has had a massive overhaul and a lot of things have been improved.

Unlike DICE the devs at SoE actually communicate with the community and they patch the game once a week fixing things that need fixing and balance issues etc.

It has a big learning curve though and progression is a bit slow, but the gun play and teamwork is some of the best you will see in any MP FPS. :)

I like the concept of the game even though it doesn't require any individual skill really, what put me off is the weapon FoV. Why does the weapon have to be taped to my eyeball, it looks so ridiculous.

Yeah, it is very team orientated game, you can use individual skill if you play as an infiltrator and use your invisibility cloak to sneak behind enemie lines and play stealthly, or as an light assault and use your jet pack to do the same thing.

The FoV takes a bit of getting used to though, it's more annoying when it obscures your view and you get killed by someone you couldn't see because of it.

Tbh i haven't played it much since it is playable on my rig, i only really played it back when i had my FX-4100 which ran the game at ~15fps, so i couldn't test the whole flanking behind enemy lines stuff as much as i would've liked but i imagine that it isn't all that effective since someone is bound to notice when you flank ~100 people.
I know the weapon FoV shouldn't be a big thing but it's annoying me a damn lot. In BF it's already a bit annoying, but at least the standard weapon FoV is acceptable. In PS2 the weapon takes up 1/4 to 1/3 of the screen, it's ridiculous. Why haven't they changed that yet, i've read loads of posts of people complaining about it. It isn't even a big deal, yea okay the weapon might look a bit weird but that's still better than what they supply.
I should probably give it a go again when i am back home.

Give it a try, the good thing about it is you don't lose any money if you don't like it. Unlike the £50+ for BF4 and Premium :\

I think i still have a voucher for it from back when i had the GTX670, i wonder if it's still usable.

Oh, BF3 might be playable soon. There is a little project called Project Venice Unleashed, they are backwards engineering the game. They already managed to build their own server structure and have multiple players join the server, their plan is to remove all the bullshit (blue tint, weapon fov, suppression, no mods) from the game. The closed beta is going to start soon, but the process takes a very long time since they only have two active developers who are also in the final stages of their studies at university. The closed beta was supposed to happen in september 2013 just to give you a timescale.
Apparently even a couple of DICE devs signed up for the closed beta (i unfortunately didn't get a key :( ), i don't know if that is a good thing or not. DICE have banned people for small modifications before, but Venice also requires one to own the game in origin, so they may let it slide because the game is already out of date.
They also have another project called Project Rome, which is a modification of BC2 which has been running for about 2 years i think. It's pretty stable by now and mods are getting better, for example there is a pretty good airplane mod, even though i expect that the code for those already existed and the modder only extracted it.
The link to their website is here.
Venice only exists on their forums so far, but they have some interesting statistics.

The big fear of course is that it will end up like AlterIWnet/4D1, meaning that it will have a good run for about 3 or 4 years until the developers get sued and the projects get taken down.

I'd personally LOVE to see someone get a modable server package out, the current ones are stupidly locked down, again due to the third party stuff etc.

Would be awesome to see this done some day. :)

wow that explains a lot..

None working game, stupid megalodon world event that literally adds... ...nothing

Well played Dice, well played. You got my money and I feel like an idiot for it.
Well, freakin' played

DICE would be better off if they broke away from EA. EA is calling all the shots. I'm sure Dice could find a way to break away from EA.. Publishers ruin the gaming industry.. thats why you see all those big kickstarter games rising and looking far more promising than anything else.

Never preorder anything but community funded projects.
A lesson i learned the hard way with BF3, never have i missed 60€ so badly before.
You really should've known better, BF4 has been messed up since release, preordering a DLC for an already wrecked game isn't a smart thing to do.

I am glad that they messed up this badly. It would've been a very slow process if the bugs weren't as intrusive as they are, at least another 2 titles until people finally would've understood that BF and CoD have two things in common, their history and their present state.
Well, at least i don't hear any "go back to CoD" chants anymore, every time someone says that i feel like punching them in the face for their stupidity and hypocrisy.

You mean like Ocullus? :P No thanks, glad I decided not to invest in that...

I didn't actually pre-order bf4, I waited for beta and tested it extensively, it was playable then, and it isn't now :(

Right. I forgot about that. Is there anyone you can trust these days? Well, luckily SC are sitting on bags of money, i hope they wont sell out.

Even with all the terrible bugs the BF3 beta was better than the final release.
I didn't think the BF4 beta was particularly great, it bored me pretty quickly. The recon felt weird, shooting down choppers was boring as hell and it was pretty much just getting in an elevator to either get obliterated or kill everybody. It sure as hell wasn't good enough for me to even consider placing an order.
I did think it was better than BF3 though and for a few moments a glimmer of hope showed up. Which was of course crushed when i heard what happened on release. When i got to play it on Cru's account it was more comedy than serious playing.
