Hey all,

First off i'm not sure if this is in the right area, I'm looking to buy a NAS but i'm looking for something is simple & good build quality as i have never own a NAS before so i'm not sure what brands are good i have been looking at some NAS but i'm still kinda confused, Not sure if i need a 2 or 4 bay NAS, with the hard drives i was looking at WD Reds or HGST.

My main use for the NAS is for media storage.

Thanks all

I'd recommend a Synology, when I was looking for a NAS many recommended them.
Whether you need a four bay unit, is up to you, but with 6TB drives available a 2 bay should be enough for most media collections.
Drive choice is also up to you, I've never had any issues with WD drives, but I have no experience with HGST.

No problem i found a Netgear 4 bay for A$229.00 but i'm really not sure about Netgear NAS, I still may end up with a Synology tho.

Thanks for the advice

I'm also hearing good things about Synology, but I would also have a look at Qnap and AsusStore. Lately I've also been hearing good things about Netgear. Are you sure you want a NAS though? When I read your message, I get the impression you mainly want the NAS because of the media storage. If it's really only about the media storage, I think you'd be cheaper off with an online cloud service. When you're not sure about the amount of space you'd need you could go for a dynamic cloud server like this one: http://www.1and1.co.uk/dynamic-cloud-server
