My Watercooling Shopping List

Hi guys!

I have finally got around to changing some of my setup. I currently have a Bitfenix Colossus, but that will soon be changing to a case that is more suited for watercooling. I have done some research on the parts that I would like to have in my loop, but as always I would love to have you commenting / giving me tips and double checking my shopping list. Nothing worse than ordering parts and having to realize they are not going to work when they arrive.

So on with the parts:

CPU Block: XSPC Raystorm (looks gorgeous 'nuff said)

Radiator: XSPC RX 360 (I play on running some low RPM fans, because I hate my rig to make noise)

Pump: Swifttech MCP 655 (laing d-5 vario)

Fittings: Bitspower barb fittings matte black

Tubing: Tygon 1/2 inch clear tubing

Coolant: Mayhems Blue premix

So on to the difficult part, deciding on a resevoir and a potential pump top for the MCP655. I really like the look of the XSPC Dual Bay ones, but I also like the EK X-RES with the D5 Top. What is your opinion on this?

Thanks for any and all comments and advice

it all looks good with the exception of the compression fittings and tubing but those are both subject to whats important to you lol. While tygon maybe decent tubing its cost way more than other that do the same thing. Compressions are in the same boat these of course are my opinion. Mick (mayhem) has basically told me tygon is crap and stay away from it. As he has tested tubing for long periods of time I trust his opinion. He recommended simple Clear Flex tubing.

as for rez's that is also alot of personal preference as well. It all depends on the look your going for. I myself just bought a Danger Den Monsoon D5 dual bay rez. It works with the D5/655 pumps like the XSPC one you mentioned. But has dual in's and out's so you can make it dual looped from one pump/rez. The bad part (now that I'm getting the Switch 810) is it takes up 2 bays (810 only has 4 and one is dedicated hot swap) (one is lost with rad) is losing 5.25 bays on cases with minimal ones to start with. As far as tops this also depends on what rez you go with. Most aftermarket tops for the D5/655 are vast improvements to the stock one (they allow barb/compression fitting choice) and aslo improved flow rates.

Best thing to do is look really hard at the case you'll be using and decide where the pump and rez or pump/rez will fit into your desired visual aspects lies. then start looking at the choices you have to make it so.

Thanks for the insight, especially on the tubing. Will probably change that and the fittings aswell. I real prefer the look of the barbs to the compression fittings, don't know why I had them there

Am I right that you can use 7/16 in barbs and then push 1/2 in tubing overtop it? Because I really would hate to have to use clamps.

EDIT: Oh and considering the resevoir. I am leaning towards an XSPC dual bay res, but without a pump mount, so that I can use the speed adjuster on the pump.

Thing is i even had 1/2 in barbs in my shopping cart in the first place

.

I am leaning towards getting this resevoir (http://specialtech.c...l-pid-8077.html) and then getting a nice looking top for the MCP655. Though that may be later down the line, cuz it already has 1/2 in barbs in the default version.

it may already have 1/2 barbs on it but the flow is improved with the change of the top as well as nozzle choices. but yeah 7/16 tubing on 1/2 barbs seals nicely. Even after working for a few months being taken apart and re done. this was my experience always leak test though

I had to get some tubing in a hurry type situation and just went to the local hardware store and got 1/2 x 5/8th tubing I had clamps and it was just going to be temporary so i made my changes and lol forgot to clamp one spot. Man was i stoked to see it too was sealed but I wouldnt trust it long term like 7/16 over 1/2 barbs

I have another question, will there be any difference between going with an XSPC Dual Bay Res that has an integrated pump mount and having the pump with an aftermarket top and then just using a normal Bay res? There is about a 20-30 pound price difference, so I would prefer to go with the cheaper (having it in the res). Are there any significant advantages / disadvantages to that?

the xspc bay rez/pump combo H2O 750 is a good pump/rez I had one with my single loop. but as I'm going with dual rads blocks and such i wanted more power to pump thru it all thats why I went with the d5 if all you are cooling is the cpu the RX kits from xspc are very good and come with everything you need except fluid

I will cool more than the CPU, I was talking about having just an XSPC bay res without the pump included.
