My router may have died

We had a power cut in my area the other day and when the power came back on my router wouldnt power up :(

My router is Dlink DGL-4300

I've tried another fuse in the plug, another socket but nothing. I also phoned Dlink but they won't do anything unless I can provide a proof of purchase =\ (which I dont have).

I don't know if it is the router itself or the adapter, is there anyway I could test if there is power coming from the adapter? If not i'll buy a new one, if there is power coming from it then its the router thats the problem...which means £75 for a new one :(

Please help, my mum and my brother hate not having the internet haha

Manufacturers do make me laugh at times. U phone DLink with an issue with a DLink item and they want purchasing information. I mean ok they probably want to judge how long u've had it - but hey, if u give them the unit info, they should be able to tell u what shop it was shipped to and in turn the shop would be able to tell u the dates.

As usual I spoke too sooon!

I got a power adapter from Maplin (one of the ones with changeable tips) My routers old adapter was 5V and this is 6V shouldn't cause a problem should it?

My router turns on and my computers respond to it (limited or no connectivity state) I even managed to get onto my routers settings screen with my laptop but couldn't do it a 2nd time.

Is it the adapter thats maybe not working as my old one is?

Someone please help :(
