My Plans For My Fractal Design Define S

Hey all,

First off if this is in the wrong area a Mod can change it if they want.

Since most of you guys now that i now own a Fractal Design Define S i have some plans for it.

I would like to bring more white into the build so my idea is i'm looking for some All white fans something like the Enermax Everest Advance UCEVA12T I like these fans cause you can turn the LED's off but the problem is they seems to be a EOL if they are i need to look for some all white fans that aren't going to cost like $30-40 each.

My next idea is changing the fans on the H105 to something like the EK Vardar 120mm Fan F4-120ER

The other ideas i have is going to be putting a false bottom in and changing the LED light for the power button not sure on how hard that would be to do would it be fairly simple & for the LED strips something like the BitFenix Alchemy 2.0 - Magnetic LED Strips in White when they come out.

My cables not sure if i should look at trying to find some Black/Red/White cables.

Do you guys think i would be putting too much white into the build or would it work out nicely, Let me know what you guys think and have any other ideas that could work.

Tbh its your choice matey I will be swapping out my Zalman Z11 neo for a white case with more cooling options I have some bitfenix spectre pro white led fans which have their own circuit for the leds also I have a white superflower psu which looks odd in a black case. I have some EK vardar F3 120 fans on my rad but im bleeding my loop atm then putting all the toys in there. I think a White and Blue build would look very nice imo.

I think my only choice in a all white fan may end up being the bitfenix ones but i kinda really don't like the frame tho, I know the EK fans will work good with the rad tho.

Personally I'd be going for Corsair White LED fans or infact ANY white LED fan from a reputable brand as it really does make a nice difference

Yeah i have the Corsair AF140 white LED atm but it does seem that the LED aren't really that bright maybe since i have running through a Fan Hub atm, i think even when i had them running through the motherboard even then the LED weren't that bright either.

I had a Spectre Pro 140mm which was nice because you can control the LED separately (manually or connect to a switch) but found the power still came via the Fan so if I ran with a fan speed reducer the LED would dim in accordance with the fan speed.

I'm guessing most fans would be similar unless the power for the LED is a completely separate circuit - which would be costly and reduce compatibility with other fans, cases and controllers.

The fans in my 500R case are 3 pin Corsair Proprietary so the brightness is always on full or off and the other two wires control the speed. The downside is that without mods you can't use them with any other fan controllers or add in extra fans on the same switch.

I'd go a combination of LED strips and LED fans. The brightness (or lack thereof) of the fans would be less noticeable and they'd contribute to the overall brightness of the interior.

Good for seeing where your hard earned was spent now you have a nice big window.

Well i have just installed the EK-Vardar F4-120ER (2200rpm) White and wow these fans are quiet there is a slight hum but only when you put your ear up to the next to the case.

Now my next question is can i use these EK fans as case fans i don't think you can tho since there really for rads.

I have my F3 120's at 700 rpm all I can hear is my D5 pump faintly from my rig

I'm just wondering if the Temps are fine tho

Are these temps ok not sure why Temp 3 & temp 6 are so high on the motherboard

Does everything look ok

Not an expert but seems the values are different depending on what is measuring them. The mobo (i'm assuming) is saying 70 degree peak but the CPU itself has only reported 39. And where is Temperature 4 on that list? Are they the CPU core temps or is it measuring something else?

It's not uncommon for one or two cores to run slightly hotter but it's usually only a couple of degrees. I'd be inclined to believe the CPU temps. Was there always such a discrepancy with the temps or only recently? Did you remove the cooler when you migrated to your Fractal?

I'm thinking it could be software too, Yes i did remove the H105 when i changed cases and put new thermal compound as well it was just the normal stuff that Corsair puts on but i replaced it with Noctua NH-H1.

When i had the H105 in the 750D it was mounted in the roof but in the Define S it's mounted in the front i don't think that would make any difference tho i do have the end tank part facing the roof.

I do have Corsair link installed but not really setup i might check that and go into the UFEI as well to check temps.

Yeah the location of the radiator in that instance would make no difference to individual cores. It could be a by-product of the airflow being reduced over the motherboard components as a whole but I'd suggest you would have noticed before if they were such high numbers in comparison. That being said - 70 degrees isn't that hot and well under what most capacitors and the like are rated to.
I'd try seeing where the temp sensors are on the motherboard.

EDIT - Just found plenty of other people saying they've had the same issues. It's to do with the Nuvoton NCT6791D reading temps (on a variety of different boards not just ASUS) and reporting high temps - especially on Temp 4 and 6.
Long story short - it suggests it's pretty safe to ignore them as they are invalid readings.
