My perfect AMD Pc-Combination (First Build)

Dual32

New member
Hey Guys, This is my first -updated- Rig , that means that i got a new computer for my birthday, but i totally modded it to this one. More Updates will come in the future.

Specs:
CPU = AMD FX8120 + Corsair H80
RAM = 8GB - G-Skill , 8GB (from another factory but dunno the name)
GPU = Sapphire Radeon HD6870
Mainboard = Asus M5A97
Power Supply = Super Flower 550W ( i had one of this in my first computer , it died in a summer in a ugly black smoke) (41 °C outside temp. and i think it was more than 100 inside the psu) (the power supply was really old and extreme dusty btw)
Case = Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium Grey
Basic DVD Drive
Harddrives = Samsung 830 - 128GB , Western Digital - 750GB (Basic one)

I had a terrible looking pc in the past , but this one is the one , which looks really good to me, also the performance :)

I would love to hear your opinions about this machine. It would be great if you would suggest me changes about my rig to get the most out of it.

Super Flower is in top with Seasonic.also an actual manufacturer.very good but hard to get. whats the gpu ?

Ahh man sorry , the main thing , how can i forget the main thing .... nevermind...it's a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 :)

Yeah the R4 is one sweet case, have one myself for my next HTPC/Server.

Rig actually looks pretty good for the moment I'd say. When you get the cash, I'd consider upgrading the GPU to a 7000 series (or an NVIDIA counterpart from the 600 series). A lot more performance/watt (i.e. less noise for more performance).

On a side note: RTCW? You were like 4 years old when that came out :lol: I loved the shit out of that game back in the day, very nice to see it still being kept alive. Don't need a 7000 series for that one, haha.

i thought that too , if i can get the money , i have the plan to buy a GTX 660ti from EVGA or an Asus Radeon HD7950 , (still alot money to save to get one of these),and a higher wattage psu , like 650 or 750 W from Super Flower or Corsair.

Actually i didn't play RtCW when it came out , i discovered it in the year 2007/2008 (from my brother :P ) I really love the game... it's over 10 years old but still around 200 players are in there...

Of course i don't need a higher Graphicscard for that game ( a Geforce 3/4 would be enough for it lol) but beside that i play games and render videos which need better gpu performance and my 6870 is still giving me the power i need)

Thanks for the hint! :)

This is so nice and clean :D good job!
In my humble opinion I'd go for a 7870 xt over a 660ti or a 7950 as they are a bit cheaper and have similarish performance. On the downside though is that they can be quite power hungry from what I've seen around the 'net.

Thanks :) I'll check the specs of the 7850 , there should't be so much difference between the 7850 and the 7950 imo.

yeah , you're right , the newer graphiccards need more power so they can work and performe better

between yours and the 7850 isn`t much difference.he is talking about the new 7870 XT. and no, newer card uses less power than previous series. a good 500W psu can hold the 7950 just fine.the sistem will use like 300W in games...you don`t need to change the psu even if you buy the 7970.amd recommendation for it is 500W

Ohh I'm sorry , i didnt't noticed the ".. XT"
Well i think there's another card in my list ...
The 7870 looks pretty good , it even beats the 7950 in some cases .. O.o

(i found this comparison on a website, it means not that i play these games...)

yeah the xt is a very good card, I would chose it over a normal 7870 any day (there is quite a difference in performance and not much of a difference in price)

Actually i didn't play RtCW when it came out.

Haha, yeah I didn't think you did :lol:

Haven't played in a while myself, this is getting me rather nostalgic. Maybe when my next build is done I might try getting it to work on my Linux machine and start again over the Summer.

Cool , but remember that there are many issues in RtCW , e.g the masterlist and some other things, just pm me if you are ready to gib some axis goats . ;)

You should have grabbed the AMD Branded cooler its basically a h80 with AMD on it, Also AMD branded ram sticks and apparently they are coming out with SSD's soon. A reference GPU wouldn't have hurt as we'll :P

I could't find the AMD branded cooler and the ram sticks were on my list too , but the G-Skills were a gift , so it would'nt be nice if i didn't use them, a reference cooled gpu would be nice too but i can't find them in any computer shops in my town , i would love to design the inside black/ red ...

Holy crap things really have changed since I last played :o
Thanks for the offer, will do if I indeed get the time to fire her up again.

Dang would have been immense for us AMD fan boys to fap to.

Although I'm not a fanboy (running Intel at the moment), having grown up in the glorious days of the K7/K8 I still have a weakness for AMD. And I really wish they find back to greatness again at some point. Intel needs some stiff competition. Maybe ARM will come to the rescue sometime in the next 10 years, who knows. Three competitors would still be better.
But with all the resources Intel have at their disposal I'm skeptical to say the least.
