How many times can i reinstall on this current configuration? I mean say if i formatted and reinstalled? Is there a limit to how many times, or is it only when i change something like a mobo it needs a new activation code?

Am saying this cause something makes me think it was 3 installs b4 having to call ms?

I thought OEM only required activation when a hardware change was detected.

Ctrl+F the EULA for 'Re-installs' and see what it comes up with?

Afaik, u install the OEM on a pc. Certain hardware changes can be made without requiring a new OEM purchase. If the initially installed OEM pc`s hardware is the same, the OEM license should still apply to that pc. The fine line is the hardware u can change b4 u need a new license, when the original pc ceases to be the original pc.. off the top of my head - mobo/cpu/OS-harddrive. Harddrive I`m unsure about. Activation of a multiple install is not a road I`ve been down.

Retail versions, ur talking about 1 install. Make a change to anything u like and aslong as the version is no longer installed anywhere else, u can re-install it. An activation can be required.

I have an OEM Vista x64 premium installed on both my rigs. I have changed mb's in both of them and also HDD and graphics card in 1 of them. There were no problems, I just had to re activate it by telephone sometimes. I always said to MS that it was only installed on 1 pc. Never had a problem, either by the automatic activation or if I had to go through an operator for some reason.

The one problem I did have was that for some reason my rig would'nt read the original disk, so I just copied it and it works fine.
