My new Corsair 350D window rig i7 4770k

Hi all, just joined and built a rig last night, and fitted the SSD this morning.

Not to some standards here and MATX is a bit small, but I really like the 350D case, (until I fitted the Bluray) then the front looks messy.

so to spec
Corsair 350D case
Corsair TX650M PSU
Corsair vengeance pro 16GB 1866 C9 RAM
Corsair H100i cooler
Gigabyte Sniper m5 1150
Intel i7 4770K
Samsung 840Pro 256 SSD
WD 1TB Black HD
Pioneer Bluray
Coolermaster Green rear case fan.
EVGA GTC 670 FTW Graphics

did not plan to spend this much but as normal things get out of control.
my old PC is a Q9550 with a 560ti and SSD upgrade which was a fast PC hence not having a new one for a while and just upgrading it with a SSD and 560ti gave me another year from it.

This new rig should be fast though, and I bought it for the better on board sound chip.

Need to sort the cables out dude, its not messy but with a bit of thought it could be much better.

Also optical drive, sickle flow fan at the back.... dear god man!?

You must be new *heres your n0000b badge*

Nice Rig =) but +1 for tinytom .. U should sort out the cables =) thougt the 350D got CM holes .. ?

Cheers

ssst he hasn't seen the light yet but he will.
OC3D will make him see the light.
he will despise thermaltake ( or thermaltacky which everone you prefer) and the nzxt h2 , cable manage .... as you are supposed to.
he will learn and grow and become one of us :)
"says the newbie himself :lol::lol: "

I thought I did a good job with the cables, most are hidden and out the back.
you cannot magic cables away, I do notice a lot of rig shots before they are finished.
And now the side is on that hides the PSU cables low down.

but no CPU power cable visible or the 3 sata cables, and the many fan cables are well routed. or any of the power cables for the drive and H100i unit.
So all you can see are the graphic card cables and as they come out the front, not a lot you can do I guess.

I have got the H100i to now glow green to match in which looks loads better.

I just fancy having a bluray, but it looks a bit out of place, but handy to have imo.

The rear fan was the only nice one I could find in green :-)

Any way I know every one hates windows experience index, but it's still nice to see every thing on 7.9

USB 3 cable is a pitter though :-( I'll see what I can do with that one.

Can I turn off the mother board LED error lights, as the red does not go well with all the green.

bar that it's should be a fast new rig and at ide is at 32oc CPU which as it's bloody hot in this room atm cannot be bad. and the fans are on quite setting for the HD100i

tough crowd :-)

it's h100i and not hd100i (probably just a typing eror i know)
and yeah the oc3d crowd is rough sometimes.

and for the cable management some tips try to zip tie the bulk of cables at the bottom and run the usb 3 cable through the hole of the 24 pin

its not so much rough, more that it likes rigs to be as best a they can be.

At least you get constructive criticism instead of bashing :p

The components go really well together, but I agree on the cable management. Yes, the optical drive sticks out a fair bit and does ruin it somewhat, but if you really need one then that's okay I guess ;)

I think this is part of what they are saying :

FIRST of all, nice build. I agree with the thought behind highlighting the green color scheme throughout, but the execution of using the SickleFlow fans is sneered at here because the rifle bearings they use for those things are kind of really noisy. They also have a tendency towards spewing out their lube early in their life, causing the most god-awful racket. A suggestion in the future for a green LED fan that doesn't make ALL of the noise and still gets the job done well is the BitFenix Spectre Pro. They make them in all different colors and they work really well. I say this from experience with both of these fans ;-).

Now the cabling. I agree that it isn't TRULY messy, but even I have severe OCD when it comes to cable management, and if a cable is sitting off by as much as 1 cm I get the strong urge to light the computer on fire x-D. Your SATA cables all appear to be routed really well, so that's not the gripe some might have. Part of it has to do with the placement of the USB 3.0 header. If you ran it through the same opening as the ATX motherboard header then you could cable tie it near the neck of the ATX cable's heat shrink, minimizing the appearance of the cable and keeping it running close to existing cable and leaving most of it hidden behind the tray.

The other "offenders" would be the PCI-E cables for the video card. True there's not much you can do with them, but even if you ran them through the grommet at the very bottom, then out the one just above it with enough slack to comfortably plug in/remove them, you could conceal the rest of the cabling behind the tray as well. As for the rest of the cables in the bottom they just need to have a little bit of the slack taken out of them without bending any of the header pins.

As for the optical drive: if you use it, that's on you. I know of several people who still for some reason REFUSE to go without one, but if that's your thing then go for the gusto!

Think of this as constructive criticism from someone who gets more than their fair share. Remember, no one is saying this is a bad build in the least. Far from it. The hardware is awesome, the color scheme is lovely, and for what it is the cabling really isn't TERRIBLE. Also what kind of overclock did you manage on your new processor, or have you not tried yet? Have you tried overclocking your memory, or are you just setting it at X.M.P. and going with it? I'm to understand that Vengeance Pro memory is binned really well for that sort of thing, would LOVE some for my rig. Anyway, cheers!

:beerchug:

EDIT: sorry if I repeated some sentiment. I kind of started typing this earlier on my laptop, got sidetracked, then closed it only to open it now and see that I didn't finish it lol.

Just on the xmp profile ATM, but that seems to work well.
I will def have to move the USB 3 cable.

Not sure how to over clock, it's been years since I have done over clocking.
Will I notice anything by doing a over clock on a high end system ?

The CPU sits on no load, the graphic card is a over clocked card as standard as is the RAM on the xmp profile.

The Samsung 840 pro 256 is the fastest thing out there also.

My old pc ran every thing no issue, (which was over locked a bit) the q9550 was a great CPU and also a great over clock.

I have prob just spent £1.4k for no reason bar wanting a new computer as mine just seems old.

Shame about the fan :-( but that is only a £12 mistake which in the scheme on things is not an issue, I'll get a new one with some bit fenix green sata cables.

Was a bit annoyed the tx650m is not really modular and has fixed old style power cables sticking out.

Even at that, "mistake" is a relative term when it comes to the fan. True there's no love lost on it for most all of us, but there are worse you could have purchased x-). Honestly for what that machine appears to be built for you wouldn't notice a TREMENDOUS difference, but it would be a difference for the better nonetheless. TTL has in this website a guide to Z77 overclocking that operates essentially the same as on the Z87 boards from what I can tell (I would confirm with others first). Most all of the names of the settings are intact from manufacturer to manufacturer, and the convenient part of this whole thing is that the guide was done using a Gigabyte motherboard anyway, so it should look even MORE familiar to you :-). Really though with a board like that, a CPU like that one, and a cooler like you have got on it, there's no reason why you SHOULDN'T be overclocking x-). If the guide still feels a bit off you can also ask around in the forum for overclocking processors. I would offer more help myself, but this isn't really the thread for it, nor do I have any real hands-on experience with the Z87 boards (yet).

I will try a over clock, seems 4.9 is possible.

So a safe 4.3 speed should be ok to run all the time.

I do play games, but mainly racing sims, I used to run a triple head to go 3 screen set up, but these days cards can run 3 screens but not heard good things about doing it this way.

I also play battle field 3 online.

But main use is photoshop and now vids, of which the latter should be a massive change on this new rig as it took ages to render hd vids before and where the over clock will also help I guess.

I am looking forward to playing with the new system once all my software is back on.

I don't understand the hate for optical drives. A lot of times I like to sit down and watch a dvd or bluray on my PC, considering that here in AUS its cheaper to buy DVD's over a digital version on iTunes it makes sense to me. When movies come on flash drives instead of a disc, then I wont need an optical drive (: Using an optical drive shouldn't be looked down upon.

Overall I think its a nice build mate. Sickle flow fans although perfectly functional, do look tacky, fans have come along way since then the sickle flows.

A very nice rig. Top components. For HD resolution gaming you have more than enough power at stock speeds. Fan - well - it's a fan. A green one in fact :D
Cables look OK to me, don't worry - there is small aberration on this forum when it comes to optical drives and cable management ;-)
Enjoy your rig.

i am laughing so hard at OP's title right now. gj tom.
i agree with the others, the odd, the sickleflow and the cable management pretty much destroy the aesthetics. get an external odd, put some discreet looking fans in there and sit down for a while to fix the cables. you can always make it tidier.
loving all of those matx builds lately.

Cables can be easily hidden......

Is the noob thing a look in the mirror comment :p as I was building systems when you were still in nappies I would guess.

My 1st rigs were Z80 running CPM and there was no internet, just BBS and you were happy to get 9,600 bit/s modems speeds.

I am never to old to learn though, but "noob" lol how far from the truth.
