My New AMD Rig

My old Rampage Formula gave up on me there about a month ago and my old coolermaster stacker was ****ing me off at the sheer size and noise of the thing. So I thought it was time for a new setup. Plus I wanted to go back to AMD, built a good few AMD setups over the years - Athlon and Nforce 4 anyone? Used to love that setup. :)

Was tempted by the i7 but I hate what Intel has done now with 3 different sockets on the market, plus the AMD was much better value.

Nice build, thanks for sharing.

Some good choices there, and finally I found some1 who uses all those stickers they give u :p

U use ubuntu for general stuff and XP for gaming ? Nice idea.

Thanks. :)

Yup I use Ubuntu for everything except gaming and home recording (i'd love to be able to use it for those too).

I've gone to the stage now that I really really dislike Windows (Be it XP, Vista or 7). :)

Really nice build there, lovely and clean. I like the orange/red cables onto the drives, goes with the ubuntu sticker.

:worship: Show them where it really hurts

Beauty of a rig, does the harddisks being in front of the fan create noise?

Thanks guys. :)

The WD Carviar is a tad noisy yeah, I find the spinpoints a lot quieter. Of the 4 the Carviar is the only one that's actually noticeable.

What I meant is does the airflow there create noise? It looks like it's being blocked by the sheer amount of harddisks.

i have 2 in front of my bottom fan in this antec 300 (used to have 4 there) and it dont make any difference that i can hear, it drops hdd temps by 5 deg +, it could be i cant hear them cos im running 2 4850's, but no realy noticeable difference even with my old fairly quiet 8800gt

Nope, no difference over the other fans. It does a good job of keeping the Hard Drives cool too, I think the max temperature I've seen is around the 30C mark.
