My Little Overclocking Adventure, and Record.

Today, I was bored, and Borune was making me jealous by his AMD Athlon 64 Winchester 3000+, which he overclocked to 2.7GHz. He was, as usual, bustin on my Intel, etc. Well here is what I did to prepare...

1. Disabled ALL Startup Applications (In MSCONFIG)

2. Turned Off ALL Windows' Visual Enhancements

3. Shut Down PC & Removed Sound Card

4. Went Into BIOS...

-Disabled Onboard Sound

-Disabled Onboard Lan

-Disabled Hyper-Threading

-Put VCore @ 1.56v (Stock 1.52)

-Put RAM @ 266MHz

5. Booted into windows and started up Clockgen, CPU-Z, and Paint.

Here Were My Results...

I got to 280FSB, but it was too unstable to even save a JPG in Paint. I upped it to 285FSB and it froze. I pressed the reset button and it didn't post. I got kinda scared, but, I just put back in my SB Live!, and cleared my CMOS. Then it boot like a charm.

So, there was my little overclocking adventure of the day! This P4 is a helluva champ, when it comes to anything. Suprised me! I was hoping for 275MHz FSB, and I got it, but a little more.

I bet, if I gave it more voltage, I could get higher, but I'm not feeling that daring, this time.

See you all around!

Very good.

P.S: you can dump a CPU-Z screenie straight to a file by pressing the F5 button.

Bah I did that on my $150 Winnie on air because :bornleet: :D

It was a Winchester. I thought it was a Venice. Then I asked him to be sure and forgot to edit it out. Not very l337 now, are you.

And, he's using a DFI Non-SLI Board, X800XL (w/ power connector), Thermalright XP120 Heatsink. He has his FSB @ 300MHz. Full load temp @ 44ºC. Core - 1.5v.

G.Skill PC4400 @ 300MHz, 2.5-4-3-7 ALL Stable.

Can do Pi (1M) in 31 Seconds.

(All that was from the AIMutation Log)

Now, who's l337. Definentally not you, thats for sure.

Hrmmm, don't see how that's any better then mine? Considering I did the same thing on a less expensive board, with "slower" ram, and a smaller heatsink, and pumped out the same super pi score...

WTF are you talking about?

:nutkick: Do us all a favor and don't speak until u get the facts young'n.

DURNIT. How'd you get the same SuperPI Score? Cheater :P ;-).

Alright, I admit it, i was a little cheeky, but tahts me.

Obviously you! Didn't someone else on this forum get 28 aswell? Of course you're going to beat Nick :p 3.3 against 4.5 ;)

Not on this forum i dont think. If they did...its time for phase change ;)

I'm still contemplating phase changing my Venice when I get it... My plan in the beginning was to phase change and watercool gpu/chipset but I figured what the hell, let's start with an uber nice watercooling setup and then later move on to phase change. It just didn't seem right going straight from air to vapor cooling, lol.

If I do phase change, I'm gonna have you (XMS) ship over a Chilly 1 and power converter for me :D
