My Hard Drive Is Returning Too Many Errors?

So My old HDD decided to die on me and I had no back up so I quickly ordered a Western Digital Caviar 250gb WD2500JS from Ebay. I tried to install windows 8 firstly, it went smoothly but the OS would freeze when I tried to update windows. I then was forced to format the drive and install a copy of windows 7. The install kept displaying two or 3 different errors but I only managed to capture this one...

I then tried to install a copy of windows XP which also failed, I did capture this error code...

I installed a copy of Ubuntu simply because I needed on OS because i'm currently using an old XP laptop with 256mb of ram and what not. Ubuntu seemed to install fine but when I restarted the PC it wouldn't load the OS.

I then did a 21 hour format with KillDisk I think, it was from the UBCD disk and tried again but it's still getting errors upon install.

I've only just used the Diagnosis tool for Western Digital on UBCD and it Found too many errors not long into the scan. Here's an image of this...

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to this thing. Does this mean the drive is broken, if so can it be fixed? Also would it be safe to use as a second drive as I've ordered an SSD. I really would like the Drive to be fixed, returning no errors and a clean install of windows 7 to be put on it.

I would appreciate any replies. Thank you

You can plug the hard drive into your computer and see if it'll format/work. It doesn't look like it will tho. All things are pointing to it being knackered.

If it does work on your computer... hmmm

On their main website it says this under the error code...

225 Too Many Errors Found Error count reached a threshold value. There are too many errors detected on this drive to be repaired. Replace the drive. Replace Drive

When I put the drive into my brother PC though it recognizes it in his O.S and there doesn't seem to be any problems. It just displays errors when writing an O.S onto it and in the diagnosis tool. o_0 It does format and everything.

I removed the Memory, Gave them a quick blow and ran the diagnosis tool again. Firstly I did a quick test and got this error...

TEST COMPLETED WITH READ ELEMENT FAILURE

ERROR/STATUS CODE: 007

I typed the code into WD support and got this...

0001 - 0008, 0015 SMART Error Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) Error returned during SMART Status/Self Test Command. The drive is defective. Replace Drive

It then went on to run a full media scan and returned the same 0225 error as last time. I'll try to format the card now.

Appologies, I saw the HP logo and thought of one of my laptops - that's where I thought the hard drive came from. My fault.

You can get hard drives that will produce enough errors in a situation that will overflow the allowable number of errors that SMART says it's allowed to have.

The drive should continue to be a pita and complain. Replace it.

Yeah I've got an SSD on the way

would it be safe to use the knackered drive as a storage devicein my system do you think?

Damn that's no good. Looks like i'm stuck with a single SSD until I can buy another HDD. I'm never going to make the mistake of buying another HDD second hand. Next time i'll be buying straight from Western Digital.

Just to let you know I decided to buy a WD Caviar Blue Sata II 500gb and it worked like a dream. Never again am I buying a second hand HDD
