My good old E8400

CRAZYCAP

Hey Guys.

Tonight I have been mucking around with my E8400 E0 Stepping. Up until tonight I have been running it @ 4ghz, that was until I decided to enter the bios. Anyway I have the machine stable (prime for 2hrs) 4.2ghz @ 1.312v. I am using the H50 with push / pull xigmatek 1500rpm fans.

My question is... do I have much more room to overclock further without breaking something?

Just keep an eye on temps, around 75c on prime is more the upper limit of what you want to be hitting on a few hour p95 test, as 95% of stuff that arent stress tests/benchmarks you usualy wont be going over 65-70c load with a 75c prime max, some exceptions being converting and rendering stuff as they generaly get similar temps to prime.

Other than that your good up to 1.375-1.4v aslong as you keep an eye on temps.

looking at your specs mate i would say 4.5ghz should be easy if you have the good tracers

your board is more than up to the job and on that voltage/speed i think you have a pretty good cpu so the 1st thing that will hold you back is your ram.

set it to cas 5 and see how they do

edit

as hunta said temps will be a factor as the h50 can only remove the heat so fast and even push/pull you will find that once you get to a voltage it just cant cope any more. having said that i would bet it can deal with over 1.45v from your cpu easy if your willing to give it that much juice that is.

Thanks guys. I am running RAM @ 4-4-4-12 in the bios. I might change them as I noticed that in 3dmark vantage and 11 it freezes so not sure if that is a RAM issue.

An update that I thought I'd post as I am very proud of my achievements with my setup. I know benchmarks are not everything but below is my run on 3dmark vantage.

E8400 @ 4.2ghz @ 1.3v - LLC enabled

GTX 570 Core Voltage - 1000mV

Core Clock - 850

Shader Clock - 1700

Memory Clock - 2000

3DMark Vantage Score - P26468

GPU Score - 22860

CPU Score - 50270

Max temp on the 570 was 86deg and on the CPU was 38deg.

I'm a happy boy!

benchmark scores are everything to some of us cap

vantage isnt the best bench to run to show gains on your cpu tbh as its done on your gpu with the physx, super pi or the older 3dmarks like 05 or 03 would give you a more real world indication of the gaions you have got from the oc mate

Run it at it stock or slower speeds to see how it compares to what you was running, that way its all apples vs apples

Updated scores and I am finally happy with the overclock and scores.

Overclocked E8400 E0 @ 4.3ghz (478x9 @1.312v)

Overcloced GTX 570 @ 1000mV (900/1800/2000)

3DMARK Score - P27463

GPU Score - 23465

CPU Score - 53263

3DMARK 11 - P5083

Thats a very respectable clock mate, just make sure you keep an eye on temps but with such a good voltage i think your sorted on that one.

thanks mate. Yeah I worked backwards from a stable overclock and my voltage now is as low as I can get. Still well under the intel spec and being cooled with a H50 and 2 xigmatek 120mm fans in push/pull (exhaust)

Thanks Marsey. Overclocking is something I'm addicted to now, its like a drug. I'd overclock my flatbed scanner if I could. Hahahahahaha!
