Hi all.
I just got my first Mach II ST and thought i'd share my experience.
oh NB/RAM/GFX/HDD all air cooled GFX is i am sure near the limits of air cooling though the rest are just bog standard fans from various old CPu's and stuff attatched with a bit of good old super glue - i never leave the room when its on, hehe.
All temps taken with motherboard monitor.
My setup.
Mobo: Asus A7N8X Deluxe Revision 2.0 running uber bios 1004, i tried asus 1004, uber 1005 and uber 1007 found uber 1004 to give highest FSB's followed by Asus 1004, then uber 1005 and uber 1007 was the worst. (no volt mods except Vcore which is set @ 1.75v).
CPU:Barton 2500+ (locked) running at a 1:1 FSB of 227Mhz ( anything higher system became unstable and killed 1 OS, and nearly 2 while trying to find peak FSB. It Runs at -31(Vc=1.71) idle to -17(Vc=1.86) full load for a an hour or two (ambiant room roughly 23C) no problems its solid.
RAM: Corsaire TWINXMS4000Pro 9-3-3-3
(2.6v no volt mods). - bad choice me thinks nasty timings, and i cant seem to reach 250+fsb, which i beleave is down to the mobo bios!, which would equal out a nonsynched tight timing setup, oh well.
GFX : saphire radeon Pro 128MB running on a 360 core flashed it up to a saphire XT got use of the improved shaders, very nice freeeby there!
I modded a Arctic cooling VGA silencer with a coolermaster aerolite 7 fan, which really pushes the air through those fins also has a few holes cut in the bottom which nicely cools the topside ram, using seal string to finish it off
.
What i got:-
3DMark Score 6878 3DMarks
CPU Score 681.0 CPUMarks
3DMark2001SE 19441
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Very happy with the result i can play UT2k4 onslaught full 32 players all eye candy on in game and card set to highest quality but aa and af controlled by game, so AA = 0 and AF = 1 running at 1600 x 1200 i get min 28FPS but generally stays 30 to 40 FPS i know this is more a GFX thing so i move on to planetside, played it? if so you know how much of a test that game can put on the whole system, any way thats the reason i tell myself i am doing all this so that i can enjoy all that software offers, though truly i think i am ever so slightly obsessed with poking fat fingers in high delicate areas
.
I am now looking to try the barton hard mod to a mobile i saw on THG, so i can unlock the multiplier, as i fear i have reached the a7n8x's current best, i say this as when using the uber bios, it gave higher voltage settings and the abillity to change chip voltage from 1.6v up to 1.9v, which i beleave is the NB, or the entire chipset, not too sure there, but either was i rammped Vcore up 1.85v DDR voltage (forgot what its called
) from 2.6 up to 2.9 and the chip voltage up from 1.6v to 1.9v, now unless these didnt change the voltage i dont have a way to check it did nothing for stabillity at all, which leads me to think its a MoboBios limitation.
If any one got this mobo going on a higher FSB would love to know how as i have been searching and most cant seem to get to 227
