Hi,

I need a new pc to replace my ageing T7300 2Ghz, 2GB, 8600MGT laptop and Ive come to my senses and am getting a desktop.

It is my first ever build and I am ready to buy, I just wanted to check it is all good and if you have any advice on it. It is a general use PC which will be used for adobe CS5, internet, storage of lots of media/films/music and ofcourse, gaming.

I do plan to give overclocking a go.

Here is my current plan:

Case - NZXT Phantom (Black)

CPU - i5 2500k

mobo - MSI P67A-GD53

RAM - 8GB (2x4gb) vengence 1600 LP (blue)

cooler - NH-D14

GPU - A GTX570 - Any recommendations? (Phantom looks good?)

PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W

SSD - Corsair 120GB Force 3

HDD - 3 x WD 2TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s Caviar Green

Sound Card: Asus Xonar D2X

optical - LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW

Keyboard - Microsoft SideWinder X6

=£1300 (on ebuyer (my preferred))

I have a decent mouse and a LG 27" 1920x1080 monitor i will be using.

Thanks for your advice.

If you dont plan on overclocking i recommend the AMD route.

Mobo - Gigabyte 990fxa0UD3

CPU - Phenom II 1090t Hex Core

Memory - Gskill RipJawsX 8gb (2 x 4gb) 1600mhz

GPU - Gainward GTX570 Phantom

Heatsink - Be Quiet Dark Rock Advanced

Case - NZXT Phantom

PSU - Corsair Enthusiast TX 650 V2

SSD - Kingston SSDNow V100 128gb

HDD - Seagate Barracuda (3 x 2tb)

Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium 7.1

DVD Drive - LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW

Keyboard - Microsoft SideWinder X6

Total Cost £1140 including next day delivery @ Overclockers.

Dont know if you have an O.S or not but can get Windows 7 Premium 64bit OEM for an extra £80

Dont see why you need so much HDD Space

I want to stick with intel thanks, and with the ND-D14.

Will a 650w PSU be enough incase i add another 570? and would i be able to add another 570 phantom on the MSI P67A-GD53?

Also i need the storage for 2TB of films/tv i have and 1tb of music, pics and docs. I want to have it all backed up aswell.

Would never recommend a nzxt phantom too anyone its so cheap and tacky

the msi board can sli 570s buut i doubt it would do on a 650W psu so 750/850 W corsair or silverstone or seasonic

Ok, I think I'll go for a corsair.

TTL seems to like the NZXT phantom? NZXT OC3D review Though it annoys me the big fan wont fit with a NH-D14.

What other cases can you recommend? I want one which has no lights, is dust filtered is quiet and looks really good.

The Corsair 650D is a nice easily maintanable case, a tad expensive but you do get what you pay for. It may have some lights on the fans but they are easily removed if you want no light whatsoever.

It has very good dust filters on both the front and bottom which are easily removable and will even fit a 240mm Rad in the roof if you ever decide to try watercooling

Goodluck with the build

Will you be running it in raid 5? I'd definately go for a corsair power supply. Maybe go for a 750 or 850. Anything more is overkill. Then again if you're not overclocking the nh-d14 is overkill too.

Instead of 3 x Western Digital Green, maybe get 2 x Western Digital Black 2TB. I have one and it is very fast. I have all my games on that rather than on my SSD and the loading times for every game I have played so far has been very quick.

For my case I have the 650d and there are no lights at all on the Fans or anywhere else. The case is brilliant though and you can always replace the fans, but I'm assuming you don't want to do that.

What do you guys think of this little bundle? Bundle Deal Will the H80 be atall noisey?

I wont be running any raid.

That is very impressive for the price. Try buy some Bitfenix Spectres for it though or Scythe Gentle Typhoons.

if you not running raid make sure you note which sata slot you plug your o.s drive in and be sure to set it to boot from that drive in the bios. Assuming you are using the ssd for boot drive.

Ok, I'll go for the black edition as i dont really need 3x2TB

Ok, how does this look?

Case - Corsair 600TM

CPU - i5 2500k

mobo - MSI P67A-GD53

RAM - 8GB (2x4gb) G.Skill RipJawsX

cooler - H80

Cooler fans - 2 x BitFenix Spectre

PSU - TX 850W

SSD - Corsair 120GB Force 3

HDD - 2 x WD Black 2TB

Sound Card: Asus Xonar D2X

optical - LG 22x DVD±RW

Keyboard - Microsoft SideWinder X6

GPU - GTX570 phantom or MSI Twin Frozr III (£20 less)??

=£1375

BTW thanks for the help guys

Well I just ordered the above rig from overclockers UK, Excite!

I'm sure I will be posting back when it comes to building the thing...

Great choices all around. Have you bought the 570 yet? I don't have a specific suggestion; I was just going to say that you can't go wrong with either. Myself, I'm getting a Corsair HX850W PSU myself because it's mostly modular (tired of hiding molex cables) . An 850W Corsair PSU will serve you well for a long time. Mine (a 5 to 7 yo used Enermax Noisetaker 485W) , well, let's just say I may need a fire extinguisher sooner or later...and a new motherboard, CPU, HDDs, and RAM if it decides to explode. Never skimp on the PSU...ever. It's good to see you didn't.
