My first build. (Work In Progress)

Hi everyone. Just gonna share a few pics of my first build, would love any advice or recommendations of what to do next. Please also take into mind that it's still a work in progress and I haven't got a super duper high budget (just whatever I have left of my wages) My apologies for the bad pictures in advance, the lighting in my room is terrible.

My apologies again for the mix match fans, there is one crap Corsair one left in there, but my local Maplin only had two and now comes to the question why are you shopping at Maplin, it's an overpriced terrible shop. Answer to that is I had a £10 voucher for there :P I also plan to remove the LED fans for some SP120's.

Specs are as follows:

FX-8350
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
16 GB 2400Mhz Corsair Vengeance Pro
EVGA GTX 970 Superclocked
Corsair H100i (Push pull config)
120 GB Sandisk SSD (Bootdrive)
2x Segate 500GB HHD's
Corsair RM850

I'm planning to move to Intel at the end of the year just before any fanboys say I should move there like asap (AMD is doing me fine for now, so thanks but no thanks) I'm also hoping to upgrade to a GTX 980 using the EVGA Step Up program. Couple more SSD's for games seen as I only have enough room for the two Battlefields on my SSD and running games like DayZ from a hard drive is no fun what so ever and to add to that some bigger HHD's so that I can actually fit and download all my games, I also stream a lot of films/music and stuff from my PC to my MacBook and Xbox.

Thanks for taking the time to look. Any thing you would change personally let me know :)

Nice first build.

First, there is nothing wrong with AMD. You've got an 8-core processor for (possibly) under $200 US. An Intel 4790k is $350 US. Are you going to be upgrading to an enthusiast grade CPU?

Some minor/low cost upgrades:
The Corsair stickers on the fans can be replaced with black stickers. Personally, I used some black vinyl stickers from a local craft shop.

Also, maybe think about changing the back fan to an intake instead of an exhaust.

This community prefers white LEDs with any color themed build. Red LEDs with a Red/Black theme will make some members' teeth itch. It also washes out your red cables/memory/heatsinks. Invest in white LEDs, if you plan on lighting your case interior.

As far as future upgrades go, think about going full SSD, with HDD's as external back-ups.

The Corsair Air 540 is fun to build in, there is just so much room. Nice case choice.

Solid first build.

Awesome build, Good to see an AMD/Nvidia rig :)

This.

I made the mistake of having all green LED fans in my older build and it washed everything out.

White LED fans really help highlight the inside of your case, The odd coloured fan here and there is ok but for the majority of LED fans I'd highly recommend white.

Now you just need to overclock the nuts off both the GPU and CPU ^_^

Kudos to you on your first build, I'm with the guys on just those little things.. other than that you have a great build to be proud of.

Hi Puck, I will be upgrading to a nice ROG board and a 4790K, likely at the back end of this year unless there is anything announced before hand. I was going to get some black stickers to cover the centres of the fans and was going to be changing the fans on the ceiling of the case to just standard none LED SP120's and getting some other kind of lighting, possibly some good strips or something. Also I understand there is nothing wrong with the FX-8350 just a lot of people seem to hate everything AMD, personally I'm happy with the performance it gives it gives me for £125 and I don't think any Intel CPU would give me similar performance at that price.

You're right about the case, theres a lot of room to expand and to make things look nice. I chose that case because at some point in the future I would like to set up my own custom water-cooling loop and stuff so there is plenty of room for that. In terms of storage I plan to get a couple 2/3TB HHD's just for bulk storage and for the games that run fine without the speed of an SSD.

Many thanks for your reply and I'll take what you said into consideration. Much appreciated.
