My First Build. Built for looks, ROG themed :)

Hello!

I have took some pics of my progress building my first rig. The parts used are ancient compared to what is available now days but i have built this purely for looks within a very small budget so using high end expensive parts i cant afford didn't make sense.

I have built some basic spec computers before and to be honest i didn't really know exactly what i was doing, i had Youtube on hand to help but this system was built for myself.

I must make it clear that I am not into gaming or do any demanding work on computers i just like the look of custom built gaming computers. I have been watching youtube videos on building gaming rigs and thought id give it a try.

I picked up all the parts very cheap and i chose most of these parts as they looked really good. I didn't want to put anything inside that was too cheap looking so i went with a few well known brands.

I loved the look of the Asus ROG boards, the black and red are two colors i wanted to incorporate into the build. I picked one up very cheap local to me via ebay. I then bought a second board as faulty for £16 on ebay to my surprise it worked perfectly fine and even worked with a few FX cpus. I only had bought this board for the accessories that came with it i.e the i/o shield and box manuals ect. so it was a bonus.

As i built this i changed a few things in the process, i.e PSU, GPU fans ect.

The graphics card i am currently using came to me by chance i did not go out looking to buy it specificlly.

Also the 120hz 3d Monitor was used as i liked the looks of it and it was made bt Asus. And i do like the responsiveness from a 120hz monitor :)

These are the parts used:

Asus 120hz 3D Vision Monitor
4x2 GB DDR3 - 8GB 1600mhz Corsair Dominator Ram
Corsair H80 CPU Cooler
Asus Crosshair IV Formula that supports some FX cpus.
NZXT Phantom Full Tower
Corsair GS800 PSU - Upgraded from a Zalman 500w
1090T CPU @ 4.0gz 1.45v
Kingston Hyper X 3K SSD 128gb
ASUS 3GB DCU2 V2 7950 - Upgraded from a GTX480
Cougar Performance Red Fans yet to go in.
NZXT 140mm Top Fan
1TB WD HD.

I thought the Dominator was a good choice as it matched the board heatsinks very well :) I know these bits are really old compared to the new stuff people are using but i built this mainly for looks :)

My test bench  I had a Zalman cooler i got free so i thought id use it for testing as it would have been a mission getting that H80 on there.

For someone who's not into gaming or higher end computing you sure have got a decent card there. The 7950 is a great bang for buck gaming card!

You've certainly got all the basics in there for a very able gaming build. Why not give gaming a go. One of the advantages of being a PC gamer is that once you've got the kit there are plenty of cheap/free games out there

Keep an eye out on https://www.humblebundle.com/ for great deals. Pay $1 or more and you get steam codes

Lol i just got it by chance. But who knows maybe i could try out some games. Ive not played games for years, not even on a ps3 or xbox.

I am not sure how to upload my pics. Do i need to gupload them to a site an copy the urls?

Use Imgur, but make sure to edit your OP instead of posting it under this

Ahh its not letting me upload to the forum, maybe cos ive only just registered? :(

Probably because the images are too big?

But like Will said, just use Imgur, Photobucket or Imageshack. Whatever you like really :)

Welcome to the forums btw!

Right, merged posts and sorted the thread out a bit.
As you're a new member, you'll find that if you post external links or pictures the posts have to be approved by a moderator before they go live on the site.
Please don't post the same thing again and again because all it ends up doing is spamming things up at our end.

Please don't double post on these forums either.

And for a final thing - the website you've been using to put images on 'postimage.org' seems to be putting a line of spam in under each picture.
Make sure you delete this out if you continue to use that website. Alternatively, use imgur which is a million times better and doesn't spam us.

Thanks.

Sorry ill switch to Imgur :p and thanks.

Hello. Yes I think I will try gaming a go. I have now got a Steam account. I've downloaded planet side 2 but it's too hard to play, well for me lol.

I will try that web link and buy some cheap games to try, thanks :)

USB LED is it? lol.

You may want to move the 230mm fan to the forward position and turn it round so it intakes air.
That should aid CPU temperatures a bit (maybe GPU too), as it will provide more air to the radiator.

Also, you may want to think of changing the fans at some point. They look unbranded and terrible.

Look at some Bitfenix Spectre/Spectre Pros, or Silverstone AP121s, if you're wanting to keep the LEDs.

USB case lighting thats a new one on me
the wifes got one for the lappy but it is on the outside

Going on looks, you have a red case, black and red motherboard, red led fans would make this look sweet.
The blue on your keyboard.........errrr !? make them red

Haha.. yes its a white usb LED. I used it in there to just light it up inside.

I am thinking of getting some clear 120mm fans in red. But I don't want the red too bright just suttle. Or I could go with some clear 120mm fans and add some red strobes inside?

Keyboard in red would look goooood! Ill have to invest in one. Best get looking on ebay

As I've already said in this thread, double posting is against the rules.

Please use the edit button in future to go back and add more information to a previous post, rather than creating a new post. Alternatively, use the multi-quote button if you wish to quote more than 1 person in the same post.

I will have to remove the motherboard to get to that top fan. The H80 Rad also just sits below the fan so moving it will mean me taking it all apart, which I don't mind doing when I have some time, most likely in a few days.

Fans I will defo replace. I have a set of Cougar PWN fans but they are Orange :( or they would of went great in the case if they were red. I think I will get rid of the LEDs and light up my case with some hidden strobes?

I am also getting a sticker made for the PSU in red.

Re: Lighting: Since you have all that colour in there anyway I think I'd personally go
with white LEDs to take advantage of that, but this is so much a matter of taste
I couldn't fault you for doing something else. Subtle red might work as well, who
knows. ;)

I am also getting a sticker made for the PSU in red.

I was about to suggest that. :D
