Oook well my dad pwned all his optical drives somehow. He was using 5 virtual drives and one DVD/RW. Well they get detected but have the little yellow icon next to them in device manager. Idk what he did so idk how to fix it. When i try to update driver it says cannot.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers thru Device Manager. After that try Roll Back drivers, that fixed a prob for me last week.

I found out that he was going through and deleting things he shouldnt have been and made an oopsie. He deleted the drivers folder on accident. So reinstalling Windows should fix the problem.

Well considering he was the master and i was the padawan yea lol. And its his machine so i dont really care, i just have to play fix it man when he cant figure it out.

Anywho, seems like its messed up more than i thought. Im trying to reinstall Windows and 1 it gave me a question/warning about MBR and it took out his second partitions on both his 200gig HDs and when Windows setup comes up it wont see the DVD-RW still. Like the drivers arent there or something. Any ideas?

BTW Macgames, that didnt work ;)

try switching the cables around and power. You might have to format all drives but i dont thk you would have to i know i had a problem were one of my drives partions was so messed up the windows install would blue screen when i got it formated everthing worked fine.

Well he really did pwn his machine this time. He had about 380gig worth of un-loseable information and he just wiped out about half of that. He thought that i couldnt do what he wanted and so he took over and i guess formated his whole C: drive. At least what i was doing he could still boot into Windows to get what he wanted. Now its deffinately gonna be fixed cause he has to start fresh. Owned.

About 380gig is alot to backup. He just shouldnt have been messing around with important stuff on his computer when he was sick. Lol, he said that himself.

you still have a little yellow icon? I came across this before. Is the yellow mark just the optical drives or the hard drives too?

Well before he formated it was the yellow ! icon next to all the optical drives under device manager. When i hit update driver it would say something like cannot find device driver or somethin.

i see, if i remember correctly you had to do something in the registry regarding the upper and lower filters. Have a google and i'm sure something will pop up. Future reference!

I think i know what he did but im not sure. Hopefully i dont have to deal with it again. The funny thing is though, he formated his own drive, not me so he cant be mad at me haha.
