My Core #0 is much cooler than the others.

I have a 3570k OC'd to 4.5GHz running on a H100i. During Prime test ("max heat test") I always stay below 80C, which im happy with.

However, I notice that my core #0 is quite alot lower than the rest. Right now core #1/2/3 is running idle at 29-30C. Core #0 however is at 23-25C.

During Prime test, Core #0 mostly runs at 65-70C, whereas the rest is at 75-80C.

Is it because I did a bad job applying thermal paste or something?

its not uncommon to have 1 core run much cooler than the others. My core 1 stays about 5C cooler than the other 3 on my i5. and it has been this way through 3 different cpu coolers, and about 6 changes of the thermal paste.

Yep, it is a normal thing, nothing to worry about anyway. :) My core #4 is upto 10*c hotter than the others on idle. Temps level out when on load though

like SieB said, its normal. if it really worries you about the thermal paste, you can try re applying it, but most likely the results will be the same.

Thanks for all the replies.

I just fixed my H100i (it had a loose backplate, so I bought some rubber washers), and applied new thermal paste.

Back then I got over 100C at 4.3GHz, now im under 80C at 4.5GHz. But if its normal then I wont bother changing the paste, again. ^^

80c @4.5ghz seems a little high? my i7 3770k @4.6ghz 1.205v w/ H100i at min fan speed gets 69c on Prime95, 71c on OCCT and 80c on Intel Burn Test. Maybe try turning voltage down. ot you might have just got unlucky and got a pretty bad chip :L

Unfortunately I havent had much luck with manual OCing. Instead I've now just bumped all 4 cores to 43 and let Vcore stay at Auto and absolutely nothing else. Turbo Boost is on so it will downclock when it has to.

Im idling at around 25-30C and during OCCT test I hit 55-60C, im more than happy with that. I really cant be bothered stress testing every .05 voltage until I find the sweet spot.

Max Vcore during OCCT was 1.3v. I assume Auto puts the voltage way higher than it has to, but I really cant complain at 55-60C. Maybe I'll try bump it 45 some day, see what happens. Maybe Auto can handle that aswell. :)
