My board with ws velociraptor??

Hi guys, I'm on my first real build at the mo and I'm now replacing my hard drive as is too small. My motherboard is the Asus m4a785d-m pro. I'm just wondering if a western digital velociraptor will work with it? I'm a little confused about this whole sata connection thing, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, the drive is sata 3 I believe. Can't figure out what my board is, if it is sata 1 then will I loose alot of speed as the drive is sata 3?

But you won't get sata 3 speed if you connect it with a sata 2 cable, make sure the cable, and mobo port are both sata 3, then you'll be up and running full speed

im 100% sure sata 2 and 3 cables are the same (have heard a couple of reviews and unboxers say this) the "sata 3" cables are just a different color

sorry, but yeah still dependant on mobo and hdd both being sata 3

If your new drive is sata 3 (6GBs) it will probably work on a sata 2 port as I belive they are backward compatable.

I hope Im right because your m/b does not have sata 3 ports.

U are SATA 3 is backwards compatible with all other SATA types that share the same connector.

Thanks alot guys, I just got a 640mb caviar black 64mb cache... Cost £50 it was an impulse buy. What u think? Good decision?

I have two of those... For HDD's they are very fast. They are, however, not quiet due to vibration.

Cheers
