My 3.9GHz OC

After I post the information of my OC I have a question at the end.

MB: Asus X58 Sabertooth

CPU: i7 950

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212plus

Base Clock: 163

Multiplier: 24 (max)

Max temperature: 82

So this is on air cooling and a very modest after market cooler as well. Does this OC sound good for my setup? THe ambient temperature in my room feels to be around room temp. My question is if anyone else has found a massive jump in V requirements after 4GHz, I would've liked to get my CPU to 4GHz, despite the low heaad room left, but going from 3.9 to 4 it seems to jump from 1.3V to idk what because I wasn't willing to push it past 1.37 on this cooler just to get it to boot properly.

Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me

you should be able to squeeze some more out of it as i have a 920 @4Ghz, unless you have had extremely bad luck in the silicon lottery. I know not a oveclocking master, but may i suggest you drop the multiplyer to 20 and up you baseclock to 200 that will give you your 4Ghz (i know Tom says that countless time when overclocking). 1.3 volts is getting to the top end of what you should need (think mine is below 1.3v). Temps are about the same as mine, but you dont want it much higher than that

use 20x200 as you foundation then work around that. im sure they will be others replies that will give you a more help

I'll try that now that I'm awake again and let you know how it went.

I think all but one of my cores were lost to the silicon lottery. There was at most a 6 degreee difference at one point after intel burn test for about 10min between my highest and lowest core.

Oh and I feel the need to mention this as well after I noticed your signature, I once saw a sign in Hawaii that said "JESUS COMING SOON" no joke lol

Well, your suggestion worked, 4GHz at 1.3V stable. Thank you very much

I don't dare push it further. I tried 4.1GHz but that was getting the CPU to hot, remember I'm using a very cheap after market cooler, it aint that great XD

glad to have been of help (i think you are the 1st memeber i have helped in my 2+yrs here lol). 4Ghz is a good clock. I would suggest getting your hands on a better cooler, youll either be able to overclock further if you wish, or get better temps at you current clock (maybe be a bit of both)

yeah i would say 82c is hot lol i tend to tell myself stay under 80 but 70c is better but its good to see you got to 4ghz
