This thread explains why I havn't been around for a week. My 2500XP is toast and possibly mobo too
I know it doesn't seem like much to you guys but I was hoping to keep it running for a while as I'm saving £ for a new car... Oh well, time for an AMD 64bit board + an opty me thinx.
Need 1 from scan ASAP!!! I'm writing this from me bro's laptop - fun
I tested a chip for someone ( :wavey: Davos), and it was as was predicted - dead. I didn't put my pc together and for some reason I assumed a thermal pad was used rather than paste, but I was wrong. I don't have any thermal paste so I put my chip in without reapplying paste. I was weary about this but I kept a close eye on the temps and it stuck around 60-63 the whole time. This was slightly higher than usual but speaking to Jim and Davos at the time it was said that the Barton chips have been known to go up to 100 with out pernament damage, and also they cut out at 80.
I turned my pc on the next time and the fans spun and heard the drives starting, but there was no 'beep' and the monitor stayed black. :eyes: uh-oh! I then tested my chip in my mates pc and surely enough it beeped a few times and black screen. I have since tried another chip in my pc and the fans started and stopped very quickly and now it doesnt even start. I've tried a different lead, just in case it fused, which didnt work. I am intending to try a different PSU today, but I suspect that my mobo is now a toaster! I'm just hoping my mates chips isn't dead as well!!!
Well theres a boring report of my newest bout of luck, :nopitty; Taught me not to fuck around with chips anymore and to keep thermal paste handy. Don't worry Davos I don't blame you, just unlucky at my end!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the PC wont start? I've added a Poll for a laugh too
