Mushkin to release a $500 4TB SSD

What i'm trying to say is they're going to be left behind cause there dragging the A** along the ground where other companies namely Samsung and other companies.

M.2 drives have been out for like 2 years and Corsair has nothing not even a NVMe drive

Good point, Hope they do come out with something, If not then I'll invest in a 2TB SSD in the middle of the year, Most likely Mushkin.

My 2TB HDD has a lot of stuff on it, Movies, High bit rate audio, Documents, Pics, Programmes, PS1/2, Gamecube, N64, Dreamcast, Wii, S/NES, Megadrive emulators and games and a butt ton of mods for various games which all comes to 1.5TB so I need to wait for Corsair to bring something out.

It's not fanboyism trust me it's slight OCD, I have to have all the same brands otherwise to me it feels out of place ^_^

Which does the naughty stuff come under? Movies, documents, programes, pics or perhaps high bitrate audio?

You could always transplant the Mushkin drive into a Corsair SSD shell so it 'looks' right if the OCD gets too bad. Of course - you'll know it's not right so it could probably still annoy you.

I'll go for a 2 or 4tb when the prices are reasonable. If you don't have an NAS and your daily driver is your media and gaming rig then you appreciate any weight savings. High capacity mechanicals weigh a tonne when you're taking your rig to a mates place.

Also - how come when anyone quotes Dice we get the numbers not the name? (Eg Originally posted by ;889275 not Originally posted by ...)

Even more bizarre - I can't write the name in full it doesn't post. Web trickery?
Has been driving me nuts.

Yeah i have seen that too.

I may be a little confused by your post it sounds a little oxymoronic, you say that it's too big and you don't need that size SSD in your rig then you say that it would be advantageous in ITX rigs as it would have the same sort of storage as a normal desktop PC... so is it good or bad?

The post was pretty clear. I said that it was too big for me and I don't need SSDs to store my data or music on, then said "But if you have ITX it's a good thing".

So instead of sounding like a completely miserable grump I conceded that somewhere somehow it could possibly make sense to some one.

See also - liquid cooled PSU thread. Just because something may be useless to me that doesn't mean I use narcissism and blanket it with "Worthless" (unlike some others I see on this forum).

I've been all ssd since I built my first pc. Using them as a data drive is still beneficial. All my programs and files that are associated with them(music, games, etc) instantly load. It's a huge deal imo. Using any computer without an ssd takes forever to load in comparison and I'm constantly tapping my fingers against the mouse waiting for it to load. So unlike you ALX imo its very worth it and seeing 4tb drives really makes me want to get them:)

That isn't a problem to me because I'm not overly concerned about saving a few £ a month on electricity so I disable wind down and sleep mode on my drives. That way everything responds immediately.

SSDs are so expensive compared to mechanical drives that it would be like the GPU power argument. IE - it would take years to pay for itself.

last time I checked mushkin drives were junk-tier (feel free to correct me). I wouldn't want to store anything on this that doesn't have a full backup.

I think that most of their products are considered a bit crap tbh. They once made industry leading memory but then they just vanished.

My Steam drive is a 120GB Muskin and it's been running virtually 24/7 for a year, solid so far. I'd love a 1TB SSD it annoys me slightly having to wait for my WD Black to spin up to watch all my legally downloaded content  I was gonna get a WD 1TB Raptor but they're non existent now.

Meh I've already passed the turning point.

Right now 256gb for a boot SSD is more than enough.

Right now a 480gb SSD for game storage is more than enough. I don't need 2000 games downloaded on my PC that I don't play.

Right now music and movies and so on do not need to be put on an SSD. Honestly that's just ridiculous.

The way my rig is built the drives are all in the right hand side panel so I never hear them. The only big advantage I can see for these massive SSDs is that little tiny ITX rigs will be able to have the same sort of storage as a desktop PC due to the drives being smaller.

Having an SSD for 'data' does not make things download any quicker.

With all of that moaning though I'm sure within a few years there will be no more mechanical drives any way so I will have them like it or not :D

It's actually great news for people that can't download a game in 5 minutes when they feel like playing it. For some when they feel like it playing a certain game it can take a up to a week to download if not more. This is a great way to download and store them for when one actually wants to play the game without having to wait ages to do so.
