i just wanted to ask, i have a p67 board so i purchased dual channel (2 sticks) of mushkin ridgeback redline ram at 6-8-6-24 to overclock to 2000Mhz.

now my question is if i got ANOTHER 2 sticks of the same ram, does that effect overclocking and timmings.

I really want 8gb of ram whihc is why iam asking.

Thanks

what will the pc be used for mate?

gaming, graphics design, video editing and music composition

if you hve a dual channel set at 6-8-6-24 wud an extra set cause the latencies to increase or wud it all be 6-8-6-24?

i want to overclock all four sticks to 2000mhz with latencies 8-9-9-24.

i wouldnt think so mate, but then i havent seen anything running 4 x 2gb usually see ppl running if they want 8gb 2 x 4gb modules

plus im not sure on how u overclock ram on sandy since you cant mess with the base clock and only overclock the turbo

ive just seen videos showing that overclocking on p67 is doable as a permenant overclock so you can disable turbo mode and speed step.

check it out.

well find out how u overclock ur ram b4 u buy more, and will prob need u 2 overclock ur cpu aswell to get the ram to 2000mhz, but as for turbo and speedstep you really dont have to turn them off now cause b4 they created instability on an overclock now they dont and they save u power and the overclock is instantly applied when a load is put on the cpu

the reasonm i dont like turbo mode is the sudden voltage spike so id rather disable it

y dont u like it? it doesnt harm the chip in anyway if it did it would never have been made like that

i mean im sure its ok to go from 3.3 to 3.8 but to go from 3.3 to 4.5/4.7 is much more than intel probably wanted and as it hasnt been tested for a long period yet id rather leave it until i can see that its not damaging

if intel didnt think it was feesable in the first place they would have had the multi locked a lot lower down so it wasnt possible

well thats probably why they only have 2 unlocked processors, the rest cant be overclocked anyway.

they locked them so u would have to buy the pricier ones is my guess more than anything then they can drop the price of the locked ones for just basic consumers and business applications, dont want you gettin a cheaper cpu and overclockin it to meet the cpu up above it, but there will be more unlocked cpu's to come, and ivy bridge will be 22nm and support dx11 against the sandy's 32nm and dx10

problem that ivy will have is that it looks like the boards that are out just now wont support them even tho they are the same socket so u would need a new one if u wanted to upgrade, im totally fighting the itch to trade up my 920 for a 2600k and ud7 but gonna wait a few months hear more news on ivy's release date

i really dont need to upgrade this i7 is more than fast enuff for my needs as its a surfing and gamin rig, thinkin about teachin myself some 3d animation, sharpen my photoshop skills up again etc and another 6gb ram in there would be perfecto instead of spending like 700 notes on a pc i wont see a noticeable difference from, i didnt really see a huge gain going from a q6600 @ 3.6 > i7 @ 4ghz in regards to what i needed it to do

You will need to have a good play with the ram to get it to 2000. It is 100% possible if you know what you are doing. and also that your rig will be able to keep 2000 stable.

Some 1156 CPU's dont like ram that high (silicone lottery not just 1 type of cpu)

If you are on 1155 there is no option for 2000 at all.
