Hi guys
I know i definately want the z77a board but i dont know if its worth gettin the gd55 over the g45... What are the differences and is the 55 worth the extra 30 quid?
Thanks in advance
Devin

The G45 is the basic z77 overclocker which will see you into the mid 4GHz range. The GD55 has better transistors and the GD65 has more of the better transistors. The difference that makes is not worth more than 100-300MHz. I had a GD55 and upgraded to a GD65 and saw precisely zero improvement in my overclock.

There are some other differences such as the GD65 having 2 more 6gb SATA connections and a dual bios.

The g45 doesn't support lucid virtu if you are looking at that. The 55 and 65 have voltage check points if you want those.

They all have the same memory, USB 3 and PCIE3 support and are generally excellent quality boards with frankly very little to split them apart as far as most users are concerned.

The g45 is just fine. I would recommend the 55 on balance.

Wow thanks for that answer mate :)

The overclocking ability of the board is more than enough for what i want and need at the minute.

The dual bios really doesn't bother me because ive always used traditional bios anyway, and tbh i dont think ill need more than 2 sata 3 anyway because they are just really for ssds i think...

I dont even know what lucid virtu is so that wont affect me :)

So all in all the g45 is a solid board that will do what i need it to do?

O rly?

I had my 2500k on a MSI z77a g43 at 4.5ghz stable with a H60.

but... The g43 did not let me manually change cpu volts.. I'm not sure if its the same crap with the g45

Read the datasheet found just the Intel gigabit port as difference.

Show me please the 2 more Sata 6 gb/s ports.

And the g55 has a power button etc on the board.

That's what I said, it will get a mid 4GHz overclock! It's largely chip dependent after that anyway depending on how many volts you want to put through your CPU.

You are right about the g43 - you are limited to adding 0.06 to the volts. That is still good enough for a half decent overclock though (4-4.5GHz) depending on the chip or maybe more if you abuse the LLC. The G45 and above doesn't have this issue.
