im trying to overclock my i5 2500k on a MSI Z77A-G45. currently im using OC geni which has it at 4.2Ghz running nice and cool but i would like to try and push for 4.5Ghz. the problem im having is that when in the bios i cant change the Voltage and i was wondering is that somethign to do with the MOBO or is there a setting to unlock it.

If there arent settings you must have something on auto.

Change any voltage settings to manual and it should give you more options

ive just got it to 4.5ghz but when i run prime95 it clocks back for some reason to 4.1-2-3Ghz, the temps are at 48 - 51 - 52 - 51 so it cant be heat :S

Likely to be power saving modes in windows and/or on the motherboard. Set everything you can to extreme or performance mode, none of this eco-shit is acceptable

theres nothing in the eco bit of the bios that i can see D:, i must add that it is the oc genie im using but i have just customized the multiplier and the core voltage as in standard mode i cant change the voltage :S

I had the same issue not being able to adjust the voltage in the UEFI (I have the GD65) - haven't been able to work out which setting I need to change, either. I just used the Click BIOS II software that was provided. My experience with trying the OC Genie button is that it uses too many volts, so run the program and try to bring the voltage down without sacrificing stability.

There are two pieces of software that seem to do the same thing; CLICKBIOSII and Control Center - do not use the latter, as the voltages are reset upon rebooting.

when i open clickbios it says i need ME8 any ideas? googled it and nothing came up O.o

yeah thats worked, ive put it to x45 and ran prime95 again and its still clocking back to about 4ghz -.-

Have you installed all the new drivers/BIOS? If not, I would.

It seems like your CPU is throttling back, which makes little sense given the thermals.
