MSI P7N SLI PLATINIUM : Maximum FSB on E8x00 series?

Hi guys,

I'm planning to jump to a E8200 from my old friend Athlon XP. Also I'm planning to buy;

A-data Vitesta DDR2-800 Xtreme Ed. 2*1Gb

Palit 9600GT Sonic

Because of an Nvidia graphic card, it seems better to have a SLI motherboard for future purposes. MSI P7N Platinium seems best solution, but I'll overclock the e8200 with my old Zalman water kit. P35 users are able to hit to 4Ghz with E8200.

Does anyone tried a e8200 on MSI P7N Platinium? What is the FSB limit you can reach? Is it possible to reach 4Ghz barrier with this motherboard?

Which do you think better : P35 or P7N Platinium?...

Custom pc got the P35 platinum up to a 530 MHz stable FSB - though with an e6750; using the same cpu they couldn't get the P7NSLI any higher than 450 MHz, which wouldn't max out the e6750 - don't know how that would fare with an e8200.

I've got one (P35 Platinum) which I'm planning a new build on - I may sell it tho', so keep an eye on the for sale section (I've also got a couple of asus P5N32-E SLI plus boards, unused, and I'll be selling one of those, if you're interested in SLI, for about £80 - it's basically a striker extreme without some of the daft bits. Doubt it will overclock as high as the p35 tho'. I also might be selling a factory overclocked MSI 8800 gt zilent with a factory fitted zalman vf1000 heatsink and fan, unused, for around the same money as the 9600 - this would give gts performance, be at least as quiet as the palit and could save mucking about with SLI - could be worth keeping an eye open for something like that - tho' if you're going SLI, the 9xxx series are probably better)

Trouble is with the older Nvidia chipsets is they dont overclock too well.

Always hearing problems with them not performing as well as a intel chipset.

Unless you have money for a 790 mobo and want to overclock Id bite the bullet and get an intel based mobo. Asus P5K premuims are £100 now and I have my 8400 here now at 500x8 (4ghz) at 1.42vcore............

Do you mean watercooling? Because I'm also using watercooling for my 8200 on P7N Platinum.

So, is this "1,42V" for daily use?...

1.42 is safe for daily yes mate.

No not watercooled yet either all on air cooling. Not going any further now though untill its all installed in the H+H project
