MSI K7N2 Delta problems

Right, got into work this morning and one of the comps was acting up - was reporting the wrong speed on CPU. Ok I admit it, I altered the FSB to 200 mhz and then realised that I'd taken the 200mhz rated ram out, as one of our servers had died the other day and replaced with some generic un-200 mhz rated ram. One reboot later and there is no display on screen.

Realising what I had done I reset CMOS and rebooted, comp turns on but still no display.

Have tried the following:

Changed Gcards to other AGP versions and also a couple of spare PCI versions and have worked out it aint that.

Reset CMOS numerous times and also removed battery in an attempt to get it working.

Forced an error by removing ram and just get the usual beep codes.

What else can I try?

regards,

Matt

P.S. Spec of machine is K7N2 Delta MB

256mb of generic Ram - replacement ram is being delvered tommorow

GF4 Gcard

Hiper PSU

120gb and an 80 GB hard disk

I have this same problem with one of my machines atm using an MSI KT6. Wonder if it's an MSI board thing?

Boardy,

It could be???

This board has always been a pain in the proverbial, finicky with power supplies and ram - I just need to get it up and running at mo though, anyone any ideas?

regards,

Matt

Sounds terminal - try some more ram or a different CPU - Sometimes removing the CPU and putting it back in again can help as can re-flashing the BIOS

If not of that works, then repalce the board.

Mav,

Weird, have just tried those options - reseated everything no display.

Changed memmory for some out of my machine and it boots? well it booted to windows and then reset itself.

Never the less booted once more - dropped speed of ram down to 166, again boots to windows, stays there for a second then BSOD and resets.

Boots once more into bios drops mem to 133 and it goes to windows bsods after a few seconds.

Once more into bios and drop the memmory down to 100 and it boots, currently been sat there for the past min or so happy as Larry.

My memory is rated at 200 mhz by the way.

So I now have a 2600 xp processor with the memory clocked at 100mhz but at least it's booting!

regards,

Matt

Right have now set the mem timings to the correct ones and it's booting at correct speed - It was previously set to auto timings.

weird...will run some benchmarks to see if it behaves.

Matt
