Msi Big bang xpower ii or Asus Rampage iv formula?

Just from looking at the pics, i would go with the MSI board. 7 full length pci-e is awesome, granted only 2 are 16x wired but still.

Because you need 7...... So that makes such a difference obviously.

Not really, i like 7 pci-e slots, it gives options, which is never a bad thing. The msi also offers more sata, more usb3 and X-FI onboard, and as i research the prices, a bit more expensive.

Ok then price/features aside, the msi looks better imo.

The Asus is a much better looker. The MSI is a great value board though.

The 7 PCIE is just irrelevant for this

I'd say the MSI too.
It does have more features tbf - not counting pointless things like 7 PCIE slots and 10 sata ports. But it does have more RAM slots, probably better overclocking performance looking at the design(?) (not checked benchmarks) and I think it looks better - excluding the tacky looking gun themed heatsinks

If it's going to be for gaming, why are you going SB-E at all?
The 3570K and a MSI GD65/MPower are the perfect match for when it comes to games. What makes you think you need the extra grunt associated with SB-E?

Yes this, sb-e pointless for gaming. ivy bridge i5 or i7 is more then enough for pure gaming.

Listen to these guys, Ginger. An i7 3770k or a i5 3570k would have no problems at all running games. Only reasons to go 2011 are you need more RAM for VMs, video editing, software dev, etc or just because you can.

I'd go with MSI on this one. It's a good value board for what you get. Step up to the Mpower and you get an added bonus of a lovely black PCB.

The PCIe lanes can make a difference, apparently at high resolutions when run in multicard configs graphics cards are saturating PCIe 3 x8.

Of course there's no point in getting anything more than a 3820 to go with it.

Also the MSI does have water blocks available for it and is in all back making colour theming easier. Though the Asus board doesn't have stupid looking heat sinks that would need replacing it is going to be very red.

Guess I should point to some benchmarks then.

Here's one of dual 680s on a rampage IV extreme doing a run though a section of battlefield 3 being run at PCie2 x16 (Which should be about the same as PCIe 3 x8) and 3 x16.

You can kinda see the difference it makes in the three screen set up

More info.

On a single card or on a single 1920x1080 monitor it makes no difference. But for multi card configs at high resolutions, the kind of situation where you'd be considering the 2011 platform it is there.

it doesn't work like that :(

So if I understand what everyone is saying is that for me also having a I7 980 haxacore 1366 ASUS rampage 3 formula , it is not worth it for me to upgrade to 2011 also ?
