Motherboard Lifespan

I recently ordered my first custom rig ever. At first i was considering getting an asus Z87 Sabertooth And an ATX case but in the end i chose a Gigabyte Sniper m5 and a mini ATX case, in part because of the review i saw on this website.

I already ordered my m5 so there is no way i'm going to change it for anything else but my question is this: What lifespan can i expect from my m5 assuming that i keep it relatively free of dust, with good airflow and cpu watercooling and i dont overclock the processor?

I ask this because i recently read that the Sabertooth has a 5 year warranty while the gigabyte only has a 3 year warranty (i believe). Does that mean its going to die after that time? what are the factors in play. I am quite concerned and i would like some opinions from experienced members if possible.

Greetings

They can die at any time. I've never had a motherboard die though. I've got all my old ones still from 10+years ago.. However think about when you're going to upgrade to newer hardware in the future. I saw that for gamers/pc enthusiasts it's about every 2years or rolling upgrades. So yea...

I certainly hope you aren't going to use that pc till it's on its last legs and can only play Windows 11 minesweeper.

2 years seems like a very short lifespan to me, i am upgrading from a Q6600 p5k-vm, which has lasted 6 good years of continuous use and it's still rolling.

Ive had 2 motherboards die on me, one was a silly asrock mobo based on socket 478 but with a pci-e slot and then an asus p5nsli that overheated its south bridge due to 2 8800GTX cards in a case that wasnt very good with airflow. safe to say the asus dying was my fault but the asrock was a pos.

How long will a motherboard live ? I guess the answer to this one is "how long is a piece of string". BUT, if you keep it clean, well ventilated and go easy when fitting hardware there's no reason why it shouldn't last for a very long time. :)
