Motherboard and CPU price drops

I'm looking into getting a 2600K and an ASUS P8Z68-V PRO; however, I have been holding off to see if the price drops after the 2700K is launched and/or if a new motherboard line is released.

How often do motherboards and CPUs drop in price, and how much on average?

I doubt there will be a price drop when the 2700K comes out it will just be priced slightly higher than the 2600K. We wont see price drops for SB until Ivy Bridge comes out, same with current motherboard prices, until the Z77 boards come out around the same time as Ivy the current ones ain't gonna get lowered either.

There is no reason to drop the prices because there is nothing affecting the pricing of them, only when new models come out do prices get lowered and even then the price drops are not that big and don't happen strait away.

Not often enough and not by enough.

tbh atm these chips and sockets are the ones to have. So unless something comes out that will challenge it, maybe Bulldozer, then you're not going to see a significant drop. Maybe when ivy bridge comes out which is the 1155 socket on 22nm the prices of these chips will drop and then a new range of 1155 socket motherboards will undoubtedly be produced, which will in turn cause a price drop for the p67 and z68 boards.

In a way... that is what I wanted to hear as well as what I did not want to hear.

If I thought prices were going to drop, then I would wait before buying to either save up more money or buy them cheaper. Now that I know it won't matter when I get them... I'll probably blow all my money now.

This is a nice question for me at the moment. I have, what is considered an ancient system ATM. I'm just sitting around waiting currently for the brand spanking new technology to come out and maybe drive down some of these component prices.

I sit and wait... sit and wait... sit and wait.

You only live once dude. I procrastinate too much, but at some point you've just gotta go for it. Carpe Diem.

There will always be something new and better on the way; however, I feel like I should hit it at the beginning of it's lifespan in order to justify the money I'm spending. That way I can hold off longer until the next big thing.

Does anyone know where I can see trends in past CPU and Mobo prices? Charts or graphs displaying historical drops in hardware prices?

Dead Poet's society or did you know that off the top of your head?

In response to the OP, the only reason to wait around for the new tech is to get the top of line gear and get the most life out of it before it obsolete. However this can have its downside as the first few products off the assembaly lines will be buggy and the drivers will have to be perfected.

Very good point sir! I do want to get the most out of it's lifespan but you mention launch issues and Im reminded of Dead Island. Maybe I'll settle for the 2600k.
