Most futureproof: 6870 or 6950?

every piece of hardware you buy, should come with a pamphlet: instructions, warranty, etc.. read that first.

if you have one from your old card, read that one. they rarely differ, if they are from the same manufacturer

Buy the 6950. I always say buy the best you can afford at the time. Later down the line, Crossfire the 6950. Atleast in the meantime your get better performance in games. It's difficult to ever think of GPUs as a futureproof investment unfortunately. By the time you come to Crossfire the 6870 something bigger and shinier may be out and you've missed many months of what could have been a better gaming experience.

Also got to consider, in this situation, the 6950 is better "value". I'd never take an earlier, less powerful card, over a newer faster one for the same price. It just doesn't make sense.
