Heloo again guys, i recently updated my system due to hardware failing every 5 mins. I have now got a fresh install off windows on my harddrives, all drivers up to date etc. i was looking farward to geting back into css. until i joined a server. to find my fps was 70-80 but quickly dropped to 20-40 after a few bits of gun fire on a deathmatch server (+ its dropped from a stress test avg of 700+ to now 180) on the same low settings).

I tried a ati tool stress test, and that comes back at a 850+ avg. so im really stumped as to whats wronge :(

hardware is e6600, 550w supply 2 sata hdds, 9800 gt soundblaster xfi and 2gb of ram gigabyte s series mobo. the 700 fps was a stress test on my in game settings, which r prety low.

16:10 ration 960x600 res (supposed to be the same as 4:3 800x600, i played on that setup before the hardware update aswel)

This might sound odd, but perhaps that res is bottlenecking your card, do you have any tv's or monitors that you can hook your pc up to with a higher res?

up your resolution it will sort the problem also make sure that its the correct aspect ratio for you monitor

i play with a 8800gt at 1400x900 and get an average of 140fps

it gets worse the lower i set it

Yeh like others said.. Up the res.. Playing at that low of a res must be really wierd lol.

But i guess if your used to it.. Seems abit of waste of a 9800gt mind.

cheers for the replys guys, i tried upping the res which doesnt make any difference, i also tried changing the aspect ratios and although there was improvements, its still awful. The drivers im using are the latest nvidia ones off the site, but i have also tried the basic drivers off the cd. temps whys is where my hope lies, we have had to have the raditors on the last two nights for various reasons and although everest says my temps r "normal" im prety sure its lying :o. tonight tho we can turn the rads off, so fingers crossed.

Does it really matter? The average human can't tell a difference in excess of 60fps...
