monitor calibration

Hi, I am using a Samsung SynMaster 2232BW but to be honest the display just doesn't seem to be right. I have tried all the adjusting and it ends up either too bright or too much contrast or too washed out.

In desperation I am thinking of purchasing one of the calibration tools called SPYDER.

These do however seem a bit pricey. Has anyone any experience of using one of these and would it be a sensible purchase?

Thanks

I've used the spyder2 and had great results. However their current product is the spyder3.

I recommend the spyder3pro, the spyder3express is really limited. The best one is the spyder3elite. But it is even more expensive. They are pricey that's true and you should only get one if you're really bothered by your screen now and if you can really tell the difference.

They also carry products for printer calibration if you are into that sort of thing.

What you can expect: more natural skin tones, better balanced colors. For example I have a Dell 3007WFP-HC and the reds were really oversaturated. After calibrating with the spyder2 I was really shocked when I saw the difference (I have one profile for 5000K 2.2, warmer colors, easy on the eyes, and one for 6500K 2.2, closer to reality). For me it was really worth it. At this time I am thinking of getting the spyder3, since it can work also on glossy screens. The spyder2 is not recommended on glossy screens.

Thanks for that. Your experience makes me want to go get one now. What a shame you cant go to a hire shop and hire it for a day or so!!

Now......there's an idea! lol

Well, I have an even better idea. Share it with a couple of your friends, and split the bill. It takes only a few minutes to calibrate a monitor, the rest of the time it will just sit somewhere collecting dust. Recalibrating is needed only once 4 or 6 months if you're really serious about it.
