Modding guide for a 'noob'

Although i have messed around and built a few computers I have never done any modding (apart from doing a ameture job on a psu that has since broke). It's not like i can't build a pc; anything standard i can and have done. Out of the box stuff is pretty simple it's just plug the thing in the thing if you get what i mean and if in doubt read the manual.

Yet modding isn't like this obviously! There's no standard way or manual which has it's upsides; you can create and change something how you want to to give a truly custom & unique design.

For me it seems that everyone in the modding world used their initiative and brains to work out how other people did stuff and tried themselves. Am i wrong?

Baiscly what I'm asking if there are any decent guides on how to basic mods like; case windows, fan mounts, etchings, case painting and braiding. Other than those done 3 years a go by the modmen i can't find any. Am i looking in the wrong place?

The modmen ones are still good and relevant i believe, as for braiding there is one on here but its a bit old. It is pretty simple though if you have the tools. Etchings are not something you can really do by yourself, unless you are really good or have access to big expensive machines. Are you just looking for general knowledge or are you planning on doing your own mods?

Braiding I definitely want to do as i'm not really proud of my previous efforts but just generally like how to use a dremel (that sounds so stupid) and just general techniques like putting in hexmesh and window installation. I'd probably carve up some old off white cases that you'd get 10 years ago before i'd do it on a new case for practice

I own my community's facebook page so thats how i got practice computers to mod. Using a dremel isnt as easy as it looks, i was so bad with it i wasnt aloud to use it again haha. Hex mesh you can buy in sheets and cut to the shape you want and leave extra so you can bolt or glue into place, the same goes with windows. You can buy custom cut acrylic sheets from ebay and if im correct they do a free etching service. For braiding/sleeving this guy is good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxyrkD7HaV4

Thanks I'll watch some of this guys other videos as well

Is parracord fabric and normal sleeving plastic or a polymer then.
