Moar SATA ports plz!

What's up with skimping out on SATA ports on these new motherboards? If they are going to take away our IDE ports they should be comping us with more SATA ports IMHO.

I'm a hard drive whore, I currently have 5 in my machine plus my SATA BluRay burner. I have 2 more hard drives that would love to be in my rig but my board only has 6 ports.

I'm noticing that even on the Crosshair V, it only has 7 ports. It looks like I'll end up going with the Sabertooth as it has 8 ports and will let me put these 2 hard drives back in to rotation.

My thought is, boards should be coming with 10-12 SATA ports as standard for decent boards, and 8+ for cheap boards....

That's just me ranting. I don't like having to make my mobo purchase decision based on how many SATA ports the board has, really dumb..... it should be a non-issue in my book!

There's your problem there. Most other people in the desktop market will at most have two ports filled; hard drive, and optical drive. The server builders will buy dedicated controller cards instead.

Why do you need so many hardrives? Do you really keep all your fraps footage after rendering and exporting the video?

In either case, Sabertooth is great. My X58 is doing just fine. What I love about it is that I get full x16 bandwidth on the first to slots (idk if that's standard but what I've seen is that many boards just drop to x8 on the second slot)

Must admit I built a server a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. All of those noisy hard drives out of audible range.

I backup all of my BluRays hence I need the space since they range from 20-40gb each.

More ports good!!! Less ports bad!!!! Lol
