"Missing" HDD Space

Hey guys, I have recently "lost" a lot of space on one of my HDD's!

I only use this HDD for some movies, and a folder that Fraps uses to put all my recording files in!

So, I was playing some Assassins Creed Revelations, with Fraps open to show me FPS, then the game crashed and freezed my whole comp (probably caused by fraps), and I had to restart the comp. When it booted back up, a black screen with text appeared telling me that my the disk needed to be checked for consistency, so I let it run the test, it passed and booted into windows, and when I checked the harddrive, the folder with ALL my recordings had dissapeared, and there was only 26GB of space left on it..

The weird thing, it has 26GB of free space, almost full, but when I go into the HDD and check, I only have files at a total size of 260GB on it, it shows hidden files as well, so it's no hidden files on it taking more space... The HDD has a total space of 465GB, and in the properties tab it says used space 439GB, while it only has 260GB of files on it!

I have tried defragmented it, checked the program WinDirStat which only shows me the 260GB i've used, not the missing GB's. I have also done troubleshooting on the disc, nothing happens when I tell it to troubleshoot, it just changes the name of the disc...

Anyone had something like this happen to them before? Google gave me no answers, hope there is a way to fix this without erasing everything on the disc. But if you guys don't have any magic tips to use on it, I formatting and re-partitioning it will probably work..

Cheers guys!

Formatting probably will work. Check if windows has decided to put a massive system restore folder or page file on the disk. One of my 1TB drives was missing about 150GB because of an over zealous system restore file.

Yeah, I will probably have to get a backup harddrive for all my stuff and format it. I have checked for system restore folders, there are none, windows has them on other harddrives. And the page file is set to max 2GB on that harddrive..

The only other thing I can suggest is running CCleaner and doing a wipe free space. That might (probably won't) get rid of the problem.
