mismatch memory timings

Hey guys.

Currently only got 2GB of corsair xms2 ddr2 memory in my PC and looking at getting another 2GB of ebay.

The RAM I have is 5-5-5-12 and the stuff I'm thinking of bidding on is 4-4-4-12.

I'm thinking there will be no problem in using them together but just wanted to check.

Cheers guys.

There might be a problem but there's a strong likelyhood it will simply but them both as 5-5-5-12

I don't think it will cause any problems, but I think, but not 100% sure that it will only run as fast as your slowest RAM so the timings would be 5-5-5-12. Having different RAM at different voltages and timings could cause unstability.

Dug has 2gb Kingston 5-5-5-15 DDR2 in the FS section for £25 I think you would be better getting those if you can because they are closer to the timings of the RAM you have now. Wait and see if anyone knows a bit more about it though

correct they will run at the slowest of the sets. Or you may be able to tighten the timings of the slower set to match the faster.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

Found some 2 GB sticks (mine are 1GB) with the timing 5-5-5-12-2T.

What's the 2T for at the end?

That stating that there are twice as many memory chips on the stick as there are on mine?

cant recall exactly what it means but I know 1T is better

Is there any reason not to mix 2 x 1GB sticks with 5-5-5-12 tines with 2 x 2GB sticks with 5-5-5-12-2T times?

As well as games I also do run some virtualization software so the extra RAM should come in handy for that and I I also run two monitors with different apps in both..
