hello people
i am currently looking for a small amp
it should be about 30cm in length and 6cm height to fit nicely on my desk
not going to name a budget since i'm willing to spend as much as needed for a good one

any suggestions?
thanks

sorry, an amp for what? a headphone amp, an amp for speakers. if its for speakers, 4 or 8 ohm? how many watts RMS per channel?

Wow, 350w RMS. so that's a 700w RMS amp, or they usually display the RMS for 4ohms, so a 1400w amp.

If your correct, 700 is enough to fill a small hall with music, in fact one of my many PA systems is 700w!

But ok, behringer do 1U digital amps, but they aren't 30cm, they are standard 19" rack mount, and I'm not sure they do one in 1400watts

If however you're speakers are 350w PMPO then any hi fi amp will work. A small dennon off of one of their mini towers.

Is this for your pc speakers?

Just to clarify 350w 8ohm speakers wouldn't be sitting on your desk, they would be about 2 ft tall by a out 1.5 ft deep and weigh quite a lot, not something you would usually put in a house.

well i have no clue about the whole speaker/sound thing so pleas excuse any mistakes i make
it says 350w on the back so no idea what else it could be
they are not my pc speakers, they are like 20cm x 60cm x 20cm

ok, so they are stereo/hi fi speakers. Have you go the make and model?

without the make and model its hard to recommend an amp to do the job.. If the amp is too low powered it will have to work too hard to drive the speakers and too big and there a risk that you kill the coils in the speakers.

Let me know the make and model and i can at least point you in the right direction of specification.

Unfortunately there is no calculation between POMPO and RMS.
RMS is a measure of power or wattage, i could get very in depth but basically its the measure of the sine wave form and represents the actual true power handling of the speaker. Manufacturers like to dispaly the PMPO figures (peak music power output) because this shows the peak amount.
e.g a speaker can out output 100w RMS but the peak wattage (beacsue of the waves) fluctuate up and down so could peak for a split second and then get a 350w PMPO, or a 150w PMPO or a 400w PMPO. a very high trebble resonse could push this limit up. PMPO is calulated by taking the very highest reading even if it happened for a split second and the maufacturers use it because bigger numbers look more impressive.

The problem comes when people dont understand the difference and pair a 100w PMPO speaker with a 100w RMS amp and they fry their speakers.

Oh and you didnt make any mistakes, i just know about this stuff and i dont want to advise you wrongly.

1400w..... fuck me sideways wtf are you running off them.

he doesnt actually need a 1400 watt amp. I mean id run a PA off that!

Its just manufacturers using tricks to pull the wool over peoples eyes.

He probably needs an 80w x2 amp or even a 100 x2. Unfortunately, if they are big home stereo speakers i dont think the small format amp he wants exsists.

ill look though.

Ok, so those speakers are pretty hefty.

I don't think your going to get anything as small as you wanted but I can recommend some amps.

You want to aim for 2 x 200w RMS @ 8 ohms. An amp with less power will struggle and may start to break up when pushed to the limit.

This would do it, but I don't know the manufacturer.

A Crown XLS1000 would do it about £310 though

Trying to keep the unit size small a Behringer Europower EPQ900 would also work.

The above are all power amps. To find a 'home' hifi amp to push these is going to be more difficult and much more expensive. I just don't think anything 'desk sized' exists that will do the job well enough.

What's your budget?

his budget is whatever it takes to get a quality amp :)

sweet thanks for helping out
will take a look at some amps i can get on amazon.de later today

yeah just get a 200 x 2 @ 8 ohms. bear in mind that is its listed as 200 watts a side in stereo as some amps will drive 4ohms in stereo but 8ohms only in bridged or mono mode.
