If you have windows 10 pro you can use GPEDIT to fix that "issue" (can also be installed a slightly different way within windows 10 home).
I have updates disabled on my pc since honestly I find them tedious and annoying and with the whole spectre/meltdown issue still affecting my cpu I'm not even remotely interested in having a boot loop or other issue going on.
But yeah GPEDIT lets you turn off updates completely or there should be there a few tweaks that can be made that let you stop the automatic portion of it and you'd have to manually select the install button to install them.
I'll have to check my edits later but I did this....oh about a little over 1 year and 3 months ago and haven't had any problems at all and no updates in that time.
EDIT - some people might think updating is "required" hence why MS did it but me personally I don't. If you're smart with tech (Im IT) and don't mess around on the internet and stuff you'll be fine 99% of the time...least I am lol.
The update problem is majorly exaggerated though. The default settings are really unintrusive, but they made fully disabling them more difficult because it's frankly an idiotic decision to make.
I'm still waiting on the sound icon fix. Not sure if it's just me but every other time I turn my computer on I can't to anything to the volume icon. I can change the volume level from my keyboard but can't left or right click it.
