Microsoft reportedly plans to bring Starfield to PlayStation 5

I can't see any way they could do this "right" and not cause a decline in Xbox sales... However they do it, would be an arrow in the knee of Xbox sales.

They have seen the success of Sony bringing PS exclusives to PC. Xbox now want a piece of that action which could be a smart thing for them, and good for all consumers.

I can.

See, sales of games brings in a F ton more cash than selling the hardware. In fact, in many instances first production consoles have been sold at a loss, with the forecast of licensing fees from games to offset that cost.

As such, as Sony themselves have realised, exclusives are dumbass. Totally and utterly dumbass, because all you are doing is stopping yourself from making more money.

Microsoft own Bethesda now. As such it would be totally stupid to sell only exclusives. People aren't going to buy a console to play one game. This is facts. When Alan Wake was an exclusive on Xbox 360 all it did was annoy people. It then sold hand over fist when they released it for PC, giving them the lightbulb moment and kick in the pants they needed.

As such Alan Wake 2 was not an exclusive to anything but sales and money.

Oh it will definitely be good for the consumers. But Playstation is already the de facto gaming maching inthe heads of literally every normal person out there, it's rare to find people that like me will consider all platforms and evaluate which makes more sense to my current financial situation, time availability and requirements, but if the kid for my neighbor asked for a console, his dad would not think on an Xbox, he would think on a playstation, If the kid from across the street who is much older would ask for a console he would just ask for a playstation directly, people just have this mentality of I want to game, I want a playstation that's deeply ingrained in people's mind the only other option is Nintendo but that's a little more for older people already deep in adulthood.

My point is: If there's no exclusive games on Xbox, what will make people wnat an xbox? If their first tought is either playstation or nintendo and they can find Halo, or Starfield there, they wont desire for something different. Unless Microsoft is giving up on the hardware side and want's just oslely focus on owning game studios and being a publisher it makes no sense for them that own the weakest brand to release their exclusives onto Playstation.

@meuvoy
That's exactly what they want to do. Software is where games make there money. Not hardware. Takes millions upon millions of units shipped over the course of a few years before they end up making money on it. Makes no sense for MS to compete and leave money on the table by withholding games from Sony. Sony has proven time and time again to create phenomenal IP games. It's a losing battle for Xbox.

They might not have exclusives but they certainly wont be going out of the hardware market they already been in talks with Intel and now AMD, Intel apparently tried very hard to get a contract with them.

Nintendo believe it or not might actually return to a better option soon with the switch 2 i.e it could be called anything, but at gamescom that according to devs was PS4 pro performance with DXR on top, which means a lot of devs will port many games and you might see a return of old where a larger selection of types of games are on nintendos machine.

tbh as much as i like playstation they arent what they were least this generation so far has been very lackluster to the point i'd not even concider it.

The issue all companys have is exclusives and while Sony and MS have changed focus slightly with a hella lot more PC games, If nintendo ever go the same route they will dominate the PC market literally dominate it.

Thing is they are highly unlikely too but if they did well things would change in a huge way in terms of who is making the larger profit.

In time I feel it will happen but like all of these companies the mindset of the company takes a long time to change and generally it's when they have a fresher generation of admin of these companys that it does.

Generally if they are doing better profit wise they don't shift as quickly as they could.

For gaming maybe. But I chose Xbox due to the fact of it having far superior sound than the playstation. Even now, PS5 still do not support Dolby Atmos correctly, whereas the very first gen xbox supported it right out of the manufacturers warehouse. Its only got better since then.

Xbox actually dominate PS if you look at a multimedia system. Gaming wise, PS wins handsdown. I do wonder how MS would have coped if they didnt have XBGP available. I'd guess even more consumers would have jumped ship to Sony.
